Jeanne Manunga - Sentenced To A Year In Jail After Sending Hundreds Of Threatening Text Messages To: Herself?

Santa Ana, California (The Weekly Vice) – Jeanne Manunga, a 25-year-old Santa Ana woman, was sentenced to a year in jail Friday after she allegedly sent hundreds of threatening text messages to her own phone.

According to prosecutors, Manunga had contacted three police departments alleging that she had received threatening text messages from her ex-boyfriend and his sister-in-law.

She reportedly contacted authorities on 19 different occasions about the alleged harassment - showing them messages which appeared to come from the sister-in-law's phone.

Police arrested the pair on charges of making criminal threats, requiring them to scrape up thousands of dollars for bail.

The sister in law was arrested three times and was held in jail for a lengthy period of time when she was unable to gather funds to make bail again.

Investigators say the ruse was uncovered when the victims went to a cell phone store and discovered that Manunga had taken out a cell phone account in the sister-in-law's name.

That was when she began sending threatening text messages from the fake cell phone account to her regular cell phone.

A jury convicted Manunga of three felony counts of false imprisonment by fraud or deceit and two misdemeanor counts of making a false police report.

She has been sentenced to a year in jail, three years probation and was ordered to stay away from the victims. She was also ordered to pay $50,000 in restitution.
