Vernon, Connecticut (The Weekly Vice) – Thomas Peno, a 50-year-old Connecticut man, was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly broke into several cars while on break during a court hearing in which he was the defendant in a larceny charge.
According to the Vernon Police Department, Peno used a court recess to buy a bottle of Vodka and became intoxicated in front of the courthouse.
After getting drunk, he broke into several cars parked in front of the courthouse, stole a GPS unit and mistakenly tried to sell it to its owner.
Investigators say when Peno returned to court, authorities took him into custody for being drunk and disorderly. They realized he matched the description of the man who was seen breaking into cars out in the court parking lot.
About that time, one of the car burglary victims walked into the courthouse and said someone broke into his car. Peno made a dash for the front door, knocking down several people.
Marshals detained Peno and held him for police. When police led Peno out of the courthouse, he screamed at people in the courthouse and out front.
This was Peno’s 40th arrest.
Peno was arrested on charges of burglary, larceny and breach of peace. His bond was set at $25,000.
