Gerard Ray Was Lying, But His Cell Phone Wasn’t. Jailed After Attempting To Sell Stolen Trailer To Its Rightful Owner.

Louisville, Kentucky (The Weekly Vice) Gerard Ray, a 25-year-old Kentucky man, was arrested Tuesday after his alleged attempt to sell a stolen trailer on Craiglist was uncovered by his own ringing cell phone.

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, Ray posted a stolen trailer for sale on Craigslist, using his own cell phone number as the listed contact number.

The trailer's owners noticed the trailer missing on Monday and it wasn't long before they found an ad on Craigslist for a trailer similar to the one that was stolen.

"When I saw the ad, I really had a feeling that it was our trailer," says Charletta Scales, the trailer's owner.

When Charletta and her son, Ryan, went to see the trailer in question, they were able to identify it as their property because of its distinct markings.

"As soon as we turned the corner, I mean, the gentleman that stole it didn't even have the thought to remove the reflective tape we had on the trailer," said Scales.

A Metro police officer arrived shortly thereafter and questioned Ray about where the trailer had come from, but Ray pretended to have nothing to do with the trailer.

The quick thinking officer, having listened to Ray's blather long enough, put his story to a simple test. The officer had the victim call the cell phone number on the Craigslist listing.

Ray's personal cell phone started ringing. Game over for Gerard Ray.

Ray was booked into the Metropolitan Department of Corrections on a charge of receipt of stolen property.
