Couple Jailed After Investigators Find Starving Dog Locked In Crate

Hudson, New York (The Weekly Vice) Rainer Blue, 26 and Lauren King, 22, both of New York, were arrested for allegedly starving a dog that was kept in a crate.

According to the Hudson Police Department, animal rescue officials responded to a complaint on May 29th of a dog starving at the couple’s apartment. Rufus, the young dog, was found starving in a small crate without food or water.

A veterinarian examined the dog and found Rufus was emaciated and in very poor overall condition but expects Rufus to make a full recovery.

“Rufus was found in the nick of time,” said Columbia's Humane Society President, Ron Perez. “Had he gone another day without food or water, he would’ve most certainly died of malnutrition.”

Blue and King were arrested on charges of animal cruelty and failure to provide proper sustenance. If convicted, each face up to a year in jail and a $1,000.
