We’re Sorry Your Dog Was Hit By A Car - Please Remit Payment For Vehicle Damage Immediately.... Sincerely, State Farm

Ottawa, Canada (The Weekly Vice) - Kim Flemming, an Aurora woman, has reportedly received a bill from an insurance company after her dog was hit and killed by a car.

According to reports, Flemming let her dog, Jake, out for a walk when she got home from work. A few minutes later, a man knocked at her door asking, "Do you have a dog? He’s on the road."

"This lady had hit him," said Flemming. " I got to the road and he was dying."

Her yellow Labrador, Jake, died in her arms a short time later.

Two months later, the family reportedly received a bill for $1,732.80 Canadian dollars ($1,648.95 US) - from State Farm Insurance demanding that she repair the damage to the vehicle's bumper. Added to the bill were costs for the driver's rental car expense.

State Farm spokesman John Bordignon defended the action, stating "They could have made sure their dog wasn't free on the roadway."

Local laws require that pets be on a leash when off a person's property. The Flemming's have informed State Farm that they don't intend to pay the bill but are looking at their options.
