Seattle Mayor Asks Community How To Make The City A Better Place - A Cool Ride, Marijuana And Plenty Of Nakedness Are Overwhelming Favorites

Seattle, Washington (The Weekly Vice) - Seattle residents were asked for their ideas on city needs and they apparently want three things the most: Cheap travel, legalized marijuana, and a nude beach.

Mayor Mike McGinn initiated an online poll asking citizens to choose what ideas would make Seattle a better place to live. Its results can be seen at

Residents were able to express their ideas on changes to the city, and each person was allowed up to 10 votes. Perhaps unsurprisingly, community transport, pot, and skinny dipping have emerged as overwhelming favorites as of Friday morning.

1. Expand as much light rail and subway as possible. (2,740 votes)

The failure of the "Forward Thrust Ballot" has Seattleites resorting to unreliable bus transportation as their only mode of public transportation. They would like to see expansion of the light rail on the west side of the city and the development of a subway system through dense neighborhoods.

2. Legalize marijuana and tax it. (2,411 votes)

Supporters have long believed that legalized marijuana could potentially bring lots of income through tax revenue, and could possibly even discourage drug gangs by taking their profit motive.

3. Set aside park beach areas for European-style, clothing-optional recreation (sunbathe and skinny dip). (1,299 votes)

Many clothing-optional events are already happening around Seattle - The Fremont Solstice Cyclists (NSFW if you really wanna see) and the World Naked Bike Ride (yikes, my eyes) to name a few.

Residents would like to have Euro-style beach areas set aside for them so they can sun-bathe and swim in the nude all year long.

An opposing point of view found in the Website's comment forum was submitted by "Broadway Madison."

"Too many ugly, old, hairy hippies around here that need to COVER UP!
Going to a nude beach is a privilege, not a right, and most folks at a nude beach need to have that privilege revoked! Besides, in this weather! With our water temperature! Go smoke dope on a nude beach in California hippies and stay off our beaches and save our children's eyesight."

On the flip side, a commenter named "Ran" was excited to see nude bathing become a reality.

"Good idea. I have visited Seattle and hope to come again in 2010. A nude beach would encourage me to do so."
