Hastings, Minnesota (The Weekly Vice) - Michael Schmidt, a 41-year-old Hastings man, was arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 9-month-old baby girl.
According to police, Schmidt and his wife were babysitting the 9-month-old niece when the baby's vaginal area became torn consistent with a sexual assault.
Investigators say Schmidt claimed the baby's injuries occurred during a diaper change and that the tear in the child's groin area was likely caused by a hangnail.
Medical experts told police the child's injuries were not consistent with Schmidt's account of how the injuries occurred.
Schmidt's wife reportedly took the baby to the emergency room and they transferred her to St. Paul Children's Hospital for surgery.
Schmidt was booked in the Dakota County Jail on one count of first degree criminal sexual assault. His bail has been set with an option: $100,000 with no unsupervised contact with his own children or $200,000 with no condition.

Unbelievable. What kind of sicko does this to an infant? The hangnail excuse does give me an idea. If he's the guilty party, let's hang him and then nail him to a fence so the buzzards have something to eat.
