Albion, IN (The Weekly Vice) - Thomas Hovis Jr., a 52-year-old Albion man, was jailed Tuesday after he allegedly hid from police in a pile of manure.
According to the Noble County Sheriff's Department, deputies and a SWAT team went to Hovis' girlfriend's residence upon information that a meth lab existed on the premises.
When deputies arrived at the residence, Hovis ran from the home to a small building where he appeared to be hiding. After attempts to evacuate Hovis from the building had failed, police entered and found him underneath the floor standing neck-deep in a manure pit.
Once Hovis was removed from the pit, he reportedly became combative, forcing deputies to subdue him with a Taser.
During a search of Hovis' property, investigators seized three different meth labs, two grams of methamphetamine, 18 marijuana plants, three handguns and an assault rifle.
Hovis was treated on the scene for hypothermia before being tranferred to Parkview Noble Hospital for further care. He was then booked into the Steuben County jail where he remains in custody on drug related charges.
Hovis reportedly has a long criminal history that includes assault and battery, multiple drug offenses, and even a murder conviction in Florida.

With all of those convictions why was this dude still walking the streets?

Why didn't the cops just nail the floor down tight and pretend they couldn't find him?
they wouldn't have to nail anything down just put something real heavy on top....and wait...
