Port Saint Lucie, FL (The Weekly Vice) - Richard Joseph Nazareth, a 38-year-old Port Saint Lucie man, was jailed Thursday after he allegedly decided to hold "church services" at a friend's house that included forcing his two young children to smoke pot, drink wine, and a mixture of tears, spit, and beer.
According to Port St. Lucie Police, Nazareth had custody of his 9-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son for a weekend in Mid-March. During their stay, Nazareth reportedly smoked marijuana in front of his children, telling them it was "God's Herb". He then blew marijuana smoke in his son's face and told him to cup his hands and inhale after the boy refused to smoke it willingly. He then forced his son to stand in a Jesus-on-the-cross fashion.
The 9-year-old girl says he tried to force her to smoke the marijuana the same way as her brother, but she pinched her nose.
Investigators say Nazareth took his children to "church services" the next day at a female friend's house, where he forced his son to smoke marijuana again in the same fashion as the previous day, cross thing and all. Nazareth then mixed his own tears with his female friend's with a bottle of wine, then spat in the bottle and added a drop of beer. He "blessed the house" with the tainted wine, then made his children drink a small glass as he drank some with the woman.
The boy told police that his father forced him to smoke marijuana approximately 10 times, and that he was up until 4:00 in the morning. He also stated that he felt sick when he returned to school the next Monday.
Nazareth stated that he did serve the children watered down wine to celebrate his purchase of a church and that he did smoke marijuana, but not in front of the children.
Nazareth was booked into jail and charged with with two counts of cruelty towards children. He was released on his own recognizance.
