Change Is Coming - The Weekly Vice Will Return To Publication On March 10

(The Weekly Vice) - When we announced that The Weekly Vice would be taking a short term break - I expected to see 20 or 25 comments on the subject.

I never expected to be clobbered with such an outpouring of support and encouragement.

Please know that I've taken every email and comment to heart, and would like to make the following announcement.

As our goal was never to shut down the site permanently, we will be getting back to work shortly.

I wish, however to do a little restructuring here at TWV so that we can deliver a better reader experience. This change will come by way of a new associate editor and an additional writer.

The Weekly Vice will remain quiet for the next few days while we make these changes - but it will return as a much improved site.

The Weekly Vice will return to publication on March 10th, which will give us some time to make the necessary adjustments while giving our writers a much deserved rest.

I want to thank every one of you who took time out of your busy schedule to comment. You will never know how appreciated your encouragement has been and the impact is has made.

I am truly amazed.

Danny, I am so happy to know that you and your fine staff will be coming back. I felt so bad for you and your group for comments made by idiots. Thanks for all the great work you do.

I have been a fan since the beginning. The case that started this site was VERY close to home for me. I have seen a lot of things, read a lot of different writers and commentators, and have seen the improvements to the site itself (and the sometimes hilarious mishaps). There have been some awesome writers that I wish where still around (AHEM: Rebecca... and Brian waaay back in the day).

To some of us here, this is like our internet family. Talking about the writers is somewhat like talking about our mothers or brothers, you know what I mean? I hope some of you can now appreciate this. People stick around here for so long because if the environment, and we won't put up with a few assholes coming in and screwing that up!!

Good to to know it works as well for adults as it does for babies.

Way to handle things.

Thank God! I can't wait. I have been a reader for well over a year, and look forward to your return. I find it silly for people to waste time critiquing others work in an area they only benefit from.
Thank you Danny, I will be looking for the updates to start.

Danny I would like to say I have beenvisiting your site for the last 6 monthes and have never signed up. Well guess what I finally signed up. After reading that you were shutting down, it blew me away at how inconsiderate some jerks can be in this world of insanity. I for one have undoubtedly enjoyed this website since I found it by mistake. Yes I said mistake and I have never regretted it. I now have everyone in my family hooked on your site. Keep up the good work.

Anbd for all those idiots that complained about your staff's grammar; in the words of the famous Author Fonzirelli "sit on it."

Just to sort of end the speculation here, I suppose there would be no harm in sharing the events that led me to evaluating whether the site should continue or not.

I knew when I decided to open the site up to new writers and different influences, there would be some resistance to it.

Most long term readers came when Danny Vice wrote every article - and I knew adding new writers would be hard for some readers to get used to.

To make matters a little more challenging, I decided it would be appropriate to bring in writers who had been long term readers.

I could have gone outside the site and found writers who were experienced and polished. But as this site has become a family in many respects, the decision to train a few readers to become writers seemed to be the only way to go.

I wanted to make sure before we all go forward, that we do it together... as this site TRULY is nothing without it's readers.

When I say this, please know, I mean this quite literally. Your comments are truly the glue that makes the site stick.

It's for this reason I felt we needed to get on the same page before going forward.

So there you have it folks. The inside baseball.

I'm sure some will say this process could have been handled differently - and that certainly is true.

I've asked our readers to get used to a lot of changes over the past two years and I think it was time to take a time-out and ask..... where do we go from here?

Thank you all for giving me a few days to reorganize a bit and take a few days out for some R and R.

Hopefully we'll emerge as a better site and a closer community because of it.

This is great news. I have been coming to this site off and on for about a year and it's full of some great chuckles. I love seeing a town close to me as it shows the dummies are pretty wide spread:-) Hope you have some good time off. You and the others that write for here deserve it.
thanks!

Thank you Danny and Co. for everything! Slip-ups here and there don't matter to MOST of us. We are all here for these crazy stories but we wouldn't have them without you guys!! I am very glad to hear you guys will be back sooner than expected. I will be checking in on the 10th for my fix :)

Wow, this has been interesting, I've been following this for a few days now....

It's funny how brave and bad ass people want to believe they are when they have a shield (car) or mask of anonyminity (sp?), such as the internet. People say and do things they would NEVER do IRL, and it's not right. I'm glad you called those jerks out on it, they need to get a life!

Well, keep writing your stuff because people DO read it, and find it interesting. Your blog is a very good study of human psychology, sociology, and people in general.

BTW, my name is Laura too! But not the bad one......just so you know lol.

I love "The weekly vice"... it's funny to read these crazy but true stories. You show the dark side of America, a country which can be very different from what shown in many Hollywood movies.
Surely it's not an easy job to retrieve, write and publish such an amount of material, but it's really worth doing. You have a lot of readers, everywhere in the world. Thank you Danny and Co.

Count me as one of the people who're glad to see the return of WV. It's kinda weird having coffee without you, Danny, because my mornings always begin with coffee and a click onto WV.
I remember the first story that really got to me reading here. It was the one about those wicked parents who's daughter had obtained severe burns from a space heater during the Christmas season. Instead of getting care for her, they just kind of put her on a sofa and used "lotion" to treat the burns (knowing their intelligence, or lack thereof, they probably used that stuff that gets warm when ya blow on it...) Anyway, imagining that poor child spending TWO WEEKS with that kind of pain... it just, I don't know, I was so mortified, so angry. Then the Megan Meier thing -- the one who's "friend" had a bitch of a mom who disguised herself as a guy who courted Megan online, then broke up with her, which resulted in this beautiful young girl taking her own life.
Reading such stories is so very hard... yet it's important to be aware of them. Because without them, maybe we wouldn't think as much when we see a child who appears to be suffering or in an unidentifiable distress. Folks tend to say, "ah, it's probably nothing" when it very well might be something. And that something could well be the monsters in this child's life.
This site has made me laugh and cry, sometimes on the same day. But most of all, it's made me aware. Aware that beyond my safe little home, real life children are fighting real life dragons.
When maps of the world were first penned, the artists would, on the parts of the world that had yet to be discovered, write "Here there be dragons."
Indeed.
Here's to you, Danny.

I have never criticized "The Weekly Vice" for typos, or any other errors. I think that is bad taste for what is a free service. Yet I have never given thanks either. So let me take this opportunity to say how grateful I am for your writing. Your stories make my day.
