Michael Coplen Took A Piece Of The Gas Station With Him

South Bend, IN (The Weekly Vice) - Michael Coplen, a 46-year-old South Bend man was jailed for a DWI after he alerted officers to his inebriated state in an interesting way - by driving away from a gas station with the pump hose dragging behind his car.

According to South Bend authorities, police received reports of a truck traveling on west on U.S. 20/U.S. 31 with a gas station's hose and nozzle hanging from his tank, striking several vehicles and becoming entangled in the truck's tires.

Officers stopped the vehicle and smelled alcohol on Coplen as they were questioning him. He failed several sobriety tests, and was taken in for a blood-alcohol test, which showed his level to be 0.13, nearly twice the state's legal limit of 0.08.

Coplen told police that he had just bought gas st the Speedway Gas Station on East Ireland Rd. Store employees stated that he paid with a credit card. The hose and nozzle were returned to the gas station, however cost estimates of the damage have not yet been disclosed.

Coplen was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail and charged with drunk driving. Bond information was not available.

I work at a gas station and there is no pump damage from that kind of thing. Those hoses pull right off. There is a release. Still theft of the hose still.

haha...alright wasn't going to post this but I gotta admit...I've done this before LOL!!!!!

I was standing next to my truck while it was filling up (granted I may have smoked a joint right before this) and I saw a friend pull up right behind me. I went to talk to him while he was filling his gas tank up and then we went inside to pay... I came out hopped right in my truck and pulled away...then I heard this very loud popping noise and was like what the F was that? Got out and saw the gas nozzle and hose still hanging out of my gas tank!!! I took it out, left it on the ground and got out of there!!! It was very embarrising at the time because everyone in the parking lot was looking at me but I laugh about it now...
