Sunrise, Fl (The Weekly Vice) - Emanuel Lawrence, a 30-year-old Sunrise man was jailed after he allegedly got stoned, rolled over on his 7-month-old daughter while he was sleeping and suffocating her to death.
According to police, Lawrence, who is unemployed, stayed up until 6:00 a.m. playing X-Box and smoking marijuana.
His girlfriend, Ines Gonzalez, woke him up 45 minutes after he fell asleep and told him to feed their children, 7-month-old. Jaidyn Lawrence and 3-year-old Aaliyah Lawrence, while she went to work.
After they were done eating, Lawrence put his daughters in bed with him and slept until about 2:30 p.m. When he woke up, he discovered he was lying on top of Jaidyn and she was not breathing, according to investigators.
After he realized his baby was dead, he moved her to her crib to try and cover up the accident because he was afraid he would be arrested. He called police around 3:00 and told them that Jaidyn died in her crib. An investigation proved otherwise.
Lawrence was jailed and charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child. His bond was set at $75,000.

The death is accidental, but his stupidity isn't. Sad.
Sad indeed. If one of my children died... knowing they suffrocated to death would haunt me for a lifetime. Knowing they struggled for breath as the lights began to fade is unimaginable...
Knowing I caused it would be .....
Well, I can't even wrap my head around it. There would be no recovering from that level of guilt, ever.
Your exactly right Bad Karma!! I would never be able to live with myself if something happened to one of my babies, and me being the reason! Very sad indeed!!
xboxlive and weed is a great combo, as for him getting to stoned and rolling on top of the baby "BOLLOX" hang him high.... pardon the pun
His first instinct should have been to call the police. Trying to cover up the seen is what got him in trouble. Poor baby.
Somthing like this actually happened to me i'm sad to say. When I was about 16 my mother adopted a baby. exsept my mother isnt the best mother in the world and I basicly was the one watching her 24/7. I was actually suprisinly danm good at takng care of her. But i had no help so I never got much sleep. One day after getting her to sleep on my twin bed for a nap I fell asleep and my pillow had somehow gotten over top of her face. I woke up to her lil fingernail scratching my arm. Thankfully it was only for a minute but that will forever be engraved in my mind.the Scariest thing that ever happened to me. Thankfully she was fine. I never let her nap in my bed again after that. But I wasn't high on weed. Maybe if he hadnt been he would of woken up easier.
Wow Holly... I think a lot of parents have similar situations.
My daughter once went over to my neighbor's house when I was sanding something....the sander was loud, so I didn't hear her go out the front door.
I nearly had heart failure when I couldn't find her...
I think scary experiences like this make us better parents. So long as you are willing to learn from them.
This is very sad. I know when my boys were tiny like that I constantly worried about them getting suffocated, falling, getting sick, basically I worried about everything. I can't imagine what this could feel like. BK is right, I know I could never forgive myself.
My son for some reason likes to sleep in my laundry basket So I went out and got him one. (he is just under 2 years old) And I put a soft blanket in it and he walks right to it climbs in and sleeps. So I know this will never happen to me. But if it did I would end up killing myself because I could never live with it.
This is so sad. Danny I totally agree with you that we can learn and better ourselves from our mistakes but I also truly believe that there should be standardized testing to determine if someone is capable and responsible enough to have a child, both finacially and mentally. So many couples out there are ill-equipped to raise children and those seem to be the people with multiple children. The Gov't needs to put an end to this, it's out of control.
Normally I would think Gov't intervention at that level would be excessive but when precious lives are being lost it is necessary, in my opinion, of course.
Ewww… yea… E-Vice, I really can appreciate what you are getting at with the standardized tests for parenthood, but that is one REALLY slippery slope. Who decides the standards? Where does the government intervention start and stop? If they can decide who can be parents what is next? Our government is already too powerful as it is.
I don’t know what the answer is… these stories are sad. That baby should be alive today.
seriously governemt help sucks... sorry to be so off topic but for a female on medicad to get her tubes tied she has to have 4 kids and 25yrs old in wisconsin... they complain about how to many females are on medicad with to many kids but they wont allow them to get fixed unless the meet both requirements.... i mean seriously... i know someone who is 23yrs old with 4 kids and they wont pay for her to get fixed til she is 25... can you imangine how many more kids she will have... she has no job and is living off child support 220 a week...
as for the standard thing...i have to disagree with that... i have 2 kids... just my husband works... we are not finacially set but we at least make sure our kids get everything they need before ourelves...
