Iowa City, IA (The Weekly Vice) - Jared Colony, a 28-year-old Iowa man has been arrested after he poured vodka into a puppy's water bowl and then encouraged the dog to drink.
According to Iowa City police, Colony was watching a friend's 4-month-old puppy Oct 17 with friends when he poured vodka into the puppy's bowl and encouraged him to drink.
Investigators say Colony had been watching the dog for about 30 minutes when the dog's owner returned home to find his dog barely breathing. Colony reportedly told the owner "Pip's just a little drunk right now."
The dog, a Puggle named Pip, was rushed to a veterinary hospital where he spent two days recovering from alcohol poisoning. Investigators say the dog was admitted to critical care and barely survived the poisoning.
Colony was booked into the Johnson County Jail on a charge of aggravated animal abuse. Bond was set at $5,000.

I have to wonder - says the veterinarian's son - whether he was drunk and thought this would be funny, or he was sober and so goddamned stupid (uneducated, ignorant, your choice) that he didn't know anything about alcohol and animals?
OK, the guy did a very stupid thing, but arrested and a $5,000 bail?
People who savagely beat other people often get less!
C'mon less decriminalize lot of this nonsense and focu in on real crime like murder, major drug trafficking, terrorism etc.
Like I said before, the laws are written by Lawyers for the benefit of lawyers.
No jail time for this man. Instead let's give him community service. He can be the aggressor where they train police dogs to attack!

What's messed up is that there are a lot of videos on you-tube where people do worse then get their animals drunk. There are some that are tripping balls on mushrooms or LSD and are going nuts. It's horrible and not funny in the least bit, and anyone who thinks so is sick!

You know, with all due respect, I don't think decriminalizing this sort of thing is a step in the right direction. Not even close.
The thing is, someone who would choose to torture a small, helpless animal is the same sort of person who'd do the same (or worse) to a child. In fact, a lot of serial killers have been known animal abusers before stepping up to inflict harm on kids.
I'm all for decriminalizing a lot of things, but this isn't one of them.
Before you go making comments, you should know the news has a tendency to stretch things. Really do you think someone would give a dog straight vodek, I don't know very many people that would drink straight vodek let alone a dog. If the dog was that thirsty, the owner of the dog must have been abusing the dog before by not giving the dog proper amount of water.
