Erica Cooper - Teacher - Leaves Toddler Daughter Alone At Home, Goes To Crack House Looking For Cocaine

Lexington, KY (The Weekly Vice) - Erica Shannon Cooper, a 38-year-old English teacher at Henry Clay High School in Lexington was arrested Friday after she left her toddler alone at home to purchase drugs from a crack house.

According to Lexington Police, Cooper was arrested around 4 a.m. Friday after police spotted a black 2001 Nissan Maxima speeding away from a known crack house in a high drug sales area.

After stopping the vehicle, officers found Cooper and two male subjects, one of which told them Cooper was out attempting to purchase cocaine with his assistance.

Investigators described Cooper as being "manifestly under the influence," noting her slurred speech and strong odor of alcohol. Police also say she was "very belligerent and combative."

During Cooper's arrest, she told officers that she had left her 2-year-old daughter alone at home while she was out searching for drugs, according to the arrest affidavit. Officers went to Cooper's apartment in Limestone where they found the woman's child.

While in the apartment, officers also discovered a can filled with marijuana and a marijuana pipe in plain view on the kitchen counter.

Cooper was booked into the Fayette County Jail on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and public intoxication.

Thank God that this woman was pulled over! If she hadn't been then this child would not have been rescued and we could be reading a very different story.

Teachers sure behaved a lot different when I was in school.

I wonder what she's going to do now? All those years of college wasted.

Eastside is right. I heard of teachers that would drive 40 miles to another town just to go into a liquor store. They didn't want any appearance of wrong doing to shadow them.
