Belton, Missouri (The Weekly Vice) - Michael Adams Jr., a 37-year-old Missouri man was arraigned on murder charges Monday after he allegedly shot his live-in girlfriend in the head following an argument over cross dressing.
Adams was charged with 2nd-degree murder and armed criminal action after prosecutors say he shot and killed 36-year-old Amber Hartwig, his long-time girlfriend.
Investigators say Adams shot Hartwig in the head before shooting himself, causing a superficial wound that was not-life threatening. The couple's two children were both home at the time of the shooting.
Relatives say Adams and Hartwig had been arguing about Adams' cross-dressing on the day the murder occurred. The couple's 18-year-old daughter discovered her mother lying dead on the kitchen floor as Adams sat nearby smoking a cigarette in women's clothing.
Adams, who had recently adopted the name "Mischelle", was reportedly in the midst of a formal transition from male to female. In addition to wearing women's clothing, he was currently undergoing hormone therapy to change his body.
Family members say Hartwig, who met Adams in high school, recently broke down and told her family about her long-time boyfriend's desire to dress as a woman. She reportedly told them she wanted to make things work "for the kids".
On July 14th, however, tension between the two culminated into two gun shots, leaving Hartwig dead and Adams injured. He was treated at a local hospital before being transferred to the Cass County Jail where he remains in lieu of a $1 million dollar bond.

That was my first thought anon. It's not really going to be punishment for him.
What, exactly, was the fight about? Were they headed out for the evening and they were wearing the same outfit?

Yeah that had to be a pretty screwed up situation for that poor girl! He does make a prettier girl then some though.... They are gonna think he is really pretty in prison!
Hey, anon and Ida... cross-dresser and/or transsexual does not equal gay. In the vast majority of cases, men who dress in women's clothing are heterosexual. Transsexuals come in flavors. I personally know a female-to-male transexual who considers himself a gay man. If Mischelle Adams continued her relationship with the victim, Amber Hartwig, it seems she may have been a male-to-female transsexual who considered herself a lesbian.
It's comments like yours that show just how prolific prejudice against people with gender issues really is.
That's not to say I agree with Adams' method of ending the argument. For God's sake, send her to jail for life, or give her the death penalty. But don't judge her based on her gender; judge her based on her crime.

I don't think it's going to matter if he is heterosexual, homosexual, asexual, non-sexual, etc etc.
This is going to be determined by his new cell mate(s).
Venus - I think it's obvious he's at least bi-sexual. Why else would be be undergoing hormone therapy to change into a female?
Either way, Ida's right. If it's male companionship he wants, he's got plenty of that coming.
What's more, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets the state to pay for continuing the hormone therapy.
So what jail are they going to hook him/her up in?
I always wondered how do they determine on which restroom they are allowed to use. It really creeps me out thinking a man might be in the stall right next to me.
I guess I ought to freak some women out and stand up facing the toilet just to see the reaction I would get.
As far as the posting. I would not have a clue as to how I would react but my heart goes out to the young daughter. Can anyone say "heartless". The devastation of not only losing your own mother by your father but losing your father at the same time (he will not be there for her).

Hey Venus Doom I'm the anon that left the first comment. The trouble with text is you can't show the inflections and nuances of language. I was using heavy irony as I thought his life in an all male prison when he looked like a female was going to be hellish

Anyone can role play if that is what your partner wants or needs.
However, to ask to be changed from gender, I would have had a problem with that. When I married a man, I wanted a man.
I am still boggled, amazed and sadden by this story. If the man was so determined to change then why didn't he just leave.
The state most likely will not pay for the therapy - it's an EXTREMELY expensive therapy that one can typically not begin (legally) without first seeing a gender therapist, who must then diagnose you with GID (Gender Identity Disorder). Even then, many insurance companies won't cover the cost of the therapy, and they virtually never cover the surgeries (as they are considered cosmetic).
Insurance companies, and society in general, do not seem to take GID very seriously at all. Which is a shame.
Chances are, Adams considers himself a lesbian female, nothing more, nothing less. People with GID are not always bi or gay (in fact, they usually are hetero). If you are a biological female who likes females but has GID, then you are considered a heterosexual male - NOT a lesbian, NOT bisexual.
Now I'm just going to sit back and wait for the "faggot" comments to start up. I'm sure there's going to be at least one. *sigh*
The daughter is one of my close friends and believe me it completly distroyed her. she misses her mom everyday and I do too. Amber was like a mom to all of us and we miss her so much.
