Woman Invites Ex-Boyfriend Over For A Visit - New Boyfriend Pops Out Of A Closet With A Baseball Bat - Pummeling Ensues

Athens, Alabama (The Weekly Vice) - Jason Earl Appleton, a 32-year-old Athens man was arrested Thursday after beating his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend with a baseball bat after she had invited him to her home.

According to Athens police, a woman invited her ex-boyfriend over to her home. Once inside, the woman locked the door and all hell broke loose.

Investigators say that's when Appleton, the woman's new boyfriend, popped out of a closet and began pummeling the unwitting victim with a baseball bat.

Police say Appleton struck the victim 21 times before he could finally get the door unlocked and hobble back to his car. Even after the victim reached his vehicle, Appleton continued to pummel him with the bat.

Appleton was booked into the Limestone County Jail on a charge of second-degree assault. Bail was set at $5,000.

Second-degree assault!!! Why is this not attempted murder?

Why is the girlfriend not in jail for conspiracy to commit murder?

Both of these scumbags should be in jail. Let them both rot.

I, also couldn't believe the girlfriend didn't go to jail, too. Most places have some sort of "luring" laws to cover things like this.

I'm also curious to know exactly what this ex-boyfriend did to deserve such a severe beating.

The story doesn't say anything about the injuries the ex recieved, but I have to think that 21 blows with a bat is going to be ugly.

Yep, I agree. Assault charges are woefully short of what this man and his wench girlfriend deserve.

If the woman didn't call 911, she's guilty... She should be put on the rack for her role in this.

As for the man. Drop him in a pot of boiling oil and be done. There's not rehabilitating someone with that kind of anger.

Only $5000 bail? Are you serious?!

Ok, I *NEVER* defend anyone who gets posted here. 99.9% of the time they at least appear to be scumbags.

But I wonder if maybe this ex hadn't abused her or something, and the two of them decided to exact revenge. It still wouldn't make it right, but it would be fitting.

I know that if I could get ahold of some of the men my wife had dated in the past I'd kick the shit out of them.

I guess I'll have to hold my opinions on this until it all comes out in court.

I was wondering when an anonymous defender would happen along on this story - and here you are.

If this man was just some random stalker, then why did she invite him into the house?

Are you telling me he just happened to force his way in while Appleton was waiting to beat him with a baseball bat? I don't buy it.

Perhaps he had a crush on her and wouldn't take a hint. That does not give them a right to beat someone with a baseball bat.

Had that person died, Appleton would be looking at murder charges. That doesn't sound like protecting anyone to me.
