Miami-Dade, Florida (The Weekly Vice) -- Police arrested two teen thugs who they believe are responsible for an attack on a wheelchair-bound man earlier this month. Nearby surveillance showed the victim as he was beaten to the ground and then robbed.
Police arrested Royce Simmons, 17, and Xavier Hyland, 13, in connection with the May 8 robbery and battery of a wheelchair-bound elderly man that was caught on camera.
According to police, the teens attacked the man in the middle of the afternoon.
66-year-old Celedono Carrera was headed home, riding his motorized wheelchair, when one of the teens attacked from behind. The teen punched and kicked the victim as he struggled to defend himself. The teen then fled after obtaining Carrera's wallet.
A second teen, seeing the handicapped man on the ground, immediately followed with a second attack on Carrera. The attack lasted less than a minute before the teen had Carrera's necklace. Both teens fled the scene, leaving Carrera battered on the ground.
The entire robbery was recorded by surveillance camera, which was released a few days later to the media. After following up on leads, authorities arrested Simmons and Hyland just a few blocks from the scene of the attack.
The two teens have been charged with strong armed robber and battery on an elder.

I rarely post the mugshots of teens on this site - particularly that of a 13-year-old. I'm making an unapologetic exception in this case. I think the exposure is well earned.
I will however keep a tight reign on racial remarks... Let's not make that the point of the story.

After delivering can goods to their church a maniac in a wheel chair ran them down and stole their wallets. Wallets that had their few hard earned dollars that they were planning to give to charity.
Simmons and Hyland have suffered years of oppression under the white mans rule. The robbery by the man in the wheel chair inflamed the years of hatred and oppression and they decided to get their wallets back. The charities so needed their few dollars.
All whites are racist and Whitey has suppressed the video images of the beating they took from the man in the wheel chair. "The Man" only showed them retrieving their own wallets from the crazed maniac in the wheelchair. We only see the rage that bottled up after years of oppression.
I only hope "The Man" doesn't cast out this comment and two more INNOCENT brothers are sent to "The Man's" prison.

its sad to say that i am not suprised at all. lowlives like this prey on the eldery everyday and its disgusting. i wonder how proud these 2's mothers are.. im sure they will be all over the news defending their "babys" who are "good boys." I think it takes a special kind of dreg to attack anyone eldery or a child. these two need to be charged as adults and sent to the big boy jail. see how much they like being on the recieving end of things for a change.
now, this is completely off topic, but why is it FLORIDA is the only state in the country where you can still find a black man rocking the bullet head? i could have sworn that went out in the 90s... i just had to go there, sorry.
disturbing this was carried out in broad daylight...but, if you are being mugged...give the thug what they are demanding...only fight if you are in physical danger...dont count on bystanders to help for the actions of people are motivated by the degree of fear they have

All though I totally appreciate all of you guys who comment on the Vice (esp. those who make me laugh). I found the majority of the comments posted for this story to be flagrantly racist. I too, am appalled by the actions of the "young men,” and feel that they should rot in jail for the remainder of their lives for their horrendous actions. I am equally appalled by the inactions of the pedestrians and motorists seen in the background, for not stopping to aid this man. Please keep away the racist remarks/comments, these remarks/comments just make you look ignorant/stupid. When I know that you all are anything but ignorant/stupid

I didn't see any. My remarks went the opposite direction. I merely said what Al Sharpton and his ilk would say.

I understand what your saying, and yes stereo types do come from somewhere. So I guess the question I’m posing (for myself really) is this. Just because these two guys are black am I to believe that all black men in general behave this way? No I absolutely do not believe that all or even most black men would behave in this despicable manner! Just as I don't believe all Hispanics are illegal, all Mormons are polygamists, all Teacher's are child molester’s, all Cops are corrupt, and all people whom reside in trailers are trash, etc. Yes stereo types come from some where, the actions of a few become the stereo type of the whole (even if it is not nessicarily warrented). I’m also not saying that you don’t have a right to your opinion, I guess my problem was more a matter of perception of what was being said (which again begets more stereo typing albeit on my part: IE something stated in a certain manner one is not accustomed to, can be seen as an inappropriate or even racist remark when that is not how it was originally intended). But to be honest with you I was more offended by the Obama remark than your comment.
So moving on.....
I still enjoy your comments, and I hope we can agree to simply disagree, although I do understand your logic, and I believe that freedom of speech should be absolute. I hope we can remain friendly.

So Ida,let me get this straight, everytime a black person commits a heinous, viscious attack against a helpless and defenseless victim like this, It's "whitey's" fault? Sad as it is, it's a fact that the majority of these type of dispicable, cowardly crimes come from the black community! Blacks have more than enough opportunity to advance today, but a lot choose the path of thuggery! And, everyone is rsponsible for ther own actions!
