Metairie, Louisiana (The Weekly Vice) -- Nicolette Brady, 35, and Chad Lee, 34, were arrested Wednesday after authorities discover a 4-year-old girl and 5-year-old boy living in a bug and waste infested apartment. The children were found in soaked diapers, bug bitten and unable to speak.
"When a deputy tried to talk to the children, neither of them spoke and they apparently didn't understand what he was saying."
Sheriff's deputies investigating a child neglect case discovered two children living in a feces and roach infested apartment that swarmed with gnats and flies.
When deputies entered the residence, the floor was soaked - presumably with water - with layers of black mold covering most surfaces. The deputies found no food in the cabinets, but did find exposed wires hanging out of several outlets, according to the arrest report.
Investigators say the still-diapered children were covered with small scabs and cuts which paramedics later identified as mosquito and mite bites, the report stated. Neighbors confirmed that the couple left the children unattended often and that the children failed to exhibit language skills.
According to the incident report, the deputy first found the children hanging out an open window. He tried to talk to the children but noted that neither one would speak and apparently didn't understand what he was saying.
Both children are currently being assessed to determine the cause of their limited ability to interact. Speech and interactive skill can be slowed by a mental condition or simply a lack of stimulation. In either case, no documentation has yet been produced indicating the children had been previously evaluated for such condition.
Brady and Lee were arrested and booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna.
Brady was charged with cruelty to juveniles, desertion and resisting arrest. Bail in her case was set at $6,500. Lee was charged with cruelty to jeveniles and desertion. His bail was set at $5,000.

I'm curious as to why you are assuming these people speak "gansta ebonics"? The article doesn't give any note to what part of town this family resided? How could you possibly know they live in a place infested with gangs where that portion of speech would be common? You can't. My inclination is that you are saying that because of their brown skin. My hope is that your reference to them being "sub-human" is due to the nature of their crime, but my educated guess is that it's not. Your reference to them being "sub-human" and speaking "gansta ebonics" is nothing more than a sick attempt at racism and fierce over-generalization. Shame on you!!
This case is horible. My soul mourns for these poor children. I pray that they can get the medical and social attention they need to recover and lead fufilling lives. As for you, my prayer is different but equally important. I pray that you haven't handed down the racism in your heart to your children (if you have them). The horrors that stem from racism are just as dispicable as the horrors these parents bestowed on their helpless children. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Holy hell you are defensive, Amber. So, you think that Ida's comment is racist. After all, most of the people who live in feces and roach infested apartments with wires hanging out are doctors and lawyers, right?
When you get so defensive, it makes YOU look stupid - it doesn't make Ida look racist. You see - unless you are blind or in denial, you KNOW that certain people are like Ida described. Not all of us, not even most, but enough that the comment was "probably" correct. So to get all enraged and start tossing out the "racist" accusation makes you look foolish and as if you have a chip on your shoulder.

On another note, I too think that was a racist comment.
By the article, it says the children were totally nonverbal. They didn't even attempt to speak. Even ghetto kids who learn bad english should be able to verbalize something.

First, talking about the children is way out of line. Period. Like going to hell with gasoline-drenched clothes type wrong. They're children.

I agree that welfare is problematic but not having welfare certainly hasn't decreased births in other countries so why would it be different here? Where's your connection? It's amusing that you would make that sort of assumption about me. In all actuality, I am a young white woman, married to a young black man and we have two bi-racial children. I don't say the things I say because I am trying to be someone I am not. I say the things I say because it saddens me to see/hear people make such over-generalizations. There may very well be a chance that these two clowns did speak "ghetto-ebonics" I'm not denying that. But that isn't a fact based claim and furthermore, even if they did- who cares! There are plenty of people in the hood who don't abuse and neglect their children. Additionally, take a look at Candise McKinney's case or Jennifer D'Silva for that matter. I didn't see Ida referring to them a "sub-human". The only difference between those two and this case is skin color.

I'm black and those were racist comments IMO. Neglecting and abusing children and finding them living in filthy living conditions is not JUST a black problem...not just a problem of welfare queens of any color.
Gangsta ebonics...umm how does that apply? Those two are far from "gangsta". They are probably crackheads who spent the welfare money on drugs versus food and necessities. That's not gangsta..that's dumb. And just as dumb and sorry are their neighbors who knew of this neglect and did NOTHING!
Backwoods, ghetto, appalachian trail...those kids should be able to say SOMETHING.
The article suggests to me that the children are unable to speak at all, and do not recognize human speech. My educated guess would be that this is due to lack of human interaction, as there are many documented cases of same worldwide. It is unusual in the US, but when such children are discovered in this country, they are almost always found living under similarly atrocious conditions.
Luckily these children were found very young, so there is a great probability that they will learn normal verbal skills, assuming that their intelligence is otherwise unassaulted. Their interpersonal skills, however, will be permanently altered if severe neglect is indeed the cause of their inability to communicate.
This is such a heart-wrenching story. Danny, thanks for bringing it to others' attention.

That's because Blacks are expected to exhibit some form of drunken monkey shines. Whether it be stabbing a roommate over an argument that ensued over the last chicken bone, or who drank the last Colt 45. It's easy to call racism, but its not like whites want blacks to misbehave. Stereotype's weren't invented out of thin air for the hell of it. They were observed for 100's of years by others. And a public opinion formed about the expected behavior of the "North American Pavement Ape"
I know these people my aunt by marriage is her blood sister. The mother was just trashy and nasty and mentally isn't all there. My aunt has custody the little girl talks but the boy is not yet.They are now in a loving caring home and getting all the love and support to get them through this. Also she had to other kids who were older her mother has custody. It wasn't about money she was just nasty and didn't give a damn. Case closed.
