Man Sentenced To 10 Years In Jail After Driving Car Through City Hall - Was Angry Because Cop Told Him To Turn Radio Down

Wichita, Kansas (The Weekly Vice) -- Marcus Johnson, a 33-year-old Wichita man was sentenced to 10 years in jail for crashing through Wichita's City Hall. Investigators say he was angry because cop told him to turn down his car radio.

Johnson was sentenced to 122 months in jail after causing some $200,000 in damages when his vehicle burst through City Hall's doors and continued through the facility.

According to police, Johnson became angered when a police officer told him to turn down the music in his car as he was parked at a convenience store Jan. 7, 2008.

In retaliation, Johnson drove his vehicle to downtown Wichita, pulled into the City Hall parking lot and drove right through the east-facing doors of the building. Investigators estimate Johnson was traveling at about 45 mph when his vehicle broke through the doors.

Investigators say Johnson's vehicle continued in an almost-perfect line down a hallway that extended to the west side of the building where Johnson's vehicle was finally stopped.

Surveillance video shows Johnson's car as it broke through revolving doors, solid doors, through a hallway and into the west side security area. Security personnel were captured standing in the path of the car just moments before it crashed through. The vehicle destroyed thousands of dollars in computers and security equipment.

Johnson plead 'no contest' to criminal damage to property, battery on a law enforcement officer and two counts of criminal threat.

During sentencing, Johnson asked the judge for leniency, claiming he had been hearing voices in his head that night.

The Weekly Vice Opinion:

I hear a voice in my head too, Johnson. It's saying "see you in ten years, idiot"

This guy is a putz but what the hell is wrong with this town that they need this much security? Either they are completely paranoid or the people of the town really hate those who run the place.

I bet it was something more along the lines of "I fought the law, and the law won."

Moron.

Not all city, county or state buildings have the barriers in place yet. I see them all the time. Federal buildings are a lot more secure for the most part.

And to the first poster, ANY city hall in a town the size of Witchita has at least that much security. Too man pissed off taxpayers are looking to cause trouble. If you don't believe me, watch the video again.

I'm assuming it was rap music. He should get 10 years for listening to loud rap and 10 years for driving through the building.
Consecutive sentences.

It's hard to believe no one was killed!!

What?!? People are saying "10 years!" like it is a harsh sentence. He drove 45 mph straight through a building and could have killed and injured a shitload of people.

He should be glad he only got 10 years! If he had to work in jail to earn that back, it would be life. He gets free "3 hots and a cot" while I still have to work my ass off!

Now imagine if he had his wages garnished, he could just remain unemployed and never have to pay anything back. Clearly he was not well educated man, so equal rights folks, back off me.

10 years is way too much. And stop with the "he could have blah blah" crap. He destroyed government propert... people who have actually hurt and killed people have gotten less than 10 years. Free Marcus Johnson!
