Tehran, Iran (The Weekly Vice) -- Ameneh Bahrami, a 31-year-old Iranian woman has won her case. Now, true "eye for an eye" justice awaits a man who blinded her with acid after she turned down his proposal of marriage.
An Iranian judge has granted her request to return the favor.
A Tehran province criminal court has ordered Majid Movahedi (right) to be blinded in both eyes from drops of acid in accordance with his victim's wishes.
Bahrami was left blinded and disfigured after Movahedi poured a jar of acid on her face as she walked home from work in October, 2004.
The 27-year-old man began harassing Bahrami after she turned down his marriage proposals. Although his family had pressured her to marry him, she refused, stating "I will never marry him."
As she walked home, Movahedi dumped a jar of sulfuric acid over her head, blinding her immediately. He then reportedly left her as she screamed in pain.
Movahedi said he decided to attack Bahrami after she told him she had married someone else, and pleaded with him to leave her alone.
"I decided to splash acid on her face so her husband would leave her and I could have her," Movahedi told the court.
17 surgeries later, she remains horribly disfigured and blind in both eyes. Despite moving to Spain, where the operations occurred, she has remained steadfast in her pursuit of eye for an eye justice.
Now the ruling is in and she'll get her wish. In accordance with the court's ruling, Movahedi will lay before her while she drops acid into his eyes.
"He will lie in front of me drugged. I will feel my way to his eyes and then drop 20 drops of acid in each eye," Bahrami explained. "My mother will do it for me if I don't manage it - but I hope that won't be necessary. I want to execute the punishment myself because it is my issue."
Bahrami, who once worked as an electrical engineer, summed up the upcoming sentence aptly by stating.
"He made fun of me in front of the court. Now he is whimpering for mercy, asking me to leave him at least one eye. But it's too late for that."
The Weekly Vice Opinion:
For once an Iranian court makes sense! Wow, what am I saying? But knowing the humiliation on top of injury this man put this woman through makes this sentence seem well earned and quite fitting. Burn baby burn.

Sorry, but this is not civilised behaviour. This is the state behaving in the same barbaric manner as the people it's punishing. What he did was a truly wicked and terrible thing and something he should be punished for but this punishment is a return to the middle ages. Government should lead by example, not stoop to the same level of those it is punishing. Where do you draw the line? The likes of Richard Ramirez raped and gouged out the eyes of his victims. Are you going to have someone do the same to him? Revenge is never as sweet as you think it will be and justice is always the better option, in my opinion.
I think it's a great idea, and if you think about it it happens in jails here all the time when it comes to rapists. They in turn get raped in jail by big 'ol bubba willy. I feel that anyone who kills should be killed. And anyone who maims should be maimed.... Another thing... Why are we wasting money on lethal injection? We should just hang them like we used to do because they don't deserve to die in such a peaceful manner...
Now that is freaking awesome, If i had the power to have eye for an eye justice i'd be able to get back at all the men who've done me wrong. You go girl!
maybe if more criminals were treated in this way, there would be less crime
WTF? at people saying this isnt the right judgement. THIS is how every judge should rule and storys like this. The person who said this isnt right I bet has never been threw anything like this. I bet if they did they would have a diffrent opioion. The only thing wrong with this ruleing is that the man (if you can call him that) will be drugged.
2 wrongs dont make a right
@mastertech
Oh please spare us, the man POURED ACID ON HER HEAD! She's lost her whole life, her sight and she was pretty. He's going to lose his sight, boo flippin' hoo.
Anyone who thinks this is not an appropriate punishment needs to think about the victim here, not the perp. Maybe revenge isn't as sweet as you/we think... but it's got to be a whole lot sweeter than sitting in the darkness knowing that he's walking around whole and happy. Even if he went to jail, he'd still be able to see a sunrise some day, something she has been robbed of forever.
@mastertech: Three lefts do.
Here is another article, where acid was thrown in his{gf, wife?} all because he was insecure with himself and jealous. He ruined this womans life
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1089629/Jealous-lover-blinded-woman-acid-blinded-acid-Iranian-court-rules.html
She was a beautiful woman before this. He robbed her of more than her eyesite. If only our courts would approach crime this way, I'll bet people would think twice.
20 drops in each eye. That's got to hurt.
And how much will she value her own life - or the lives of others - once she does this? I have been wronged before, but the idea of wishing the same harm on those who did so just appalls me. As someone mentioned - two wrongs do not make a right.
Late last year, an Iranian court sentenced Movahedi to be blinded with drops of acid in each eye. This month, the courts rejected Movahedi’s appeal.
UPDATE: BUT they did rule that because Bahrami is "only a woman" and Movahedi is a man, he will only have acid dripped into one eye, and will not be completely blinded, as he did to Bahrami.
"an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" - mahatma gandhi
i understand that he completely ruined her and her entire life as she knew it. but i honestly think there are better and more humane ways to punish him. she, of all people, knows what it is like to have this done and how detrimental it is to her life. why would she want to put someone else through it, even if it is the guy who did it to her in the first place. i just dont think violence is the best solution in this scenario. i can see how it would be fitting. but honestly, there are other alternatives. vengeance isn't the solution. he is already going to get what is coming to him anyway. karma is a bitch.
some dudes dont take rejection well at all
YES!!! that is how things should be handled here so that people would think twice b4 harming someone else!!!
Great idea!!!
Someone else said it, and I'm going to repeat it - if more criminals were punished this way, there would be a hell of a lot less crime in the world. In backwards countries where "honor killings" and rape victims are punished, it is very good news to hear that a woman is getting - what for her - is justice. The victim of a crime should always be allowed to determine punishment, especially in cases this brutal, as long as said punishment didn't harm an innocent. We would want confessions from the criminals and the like to prove beyond a doubt the right person was "getting it."
Just think - someone mugs you and cracks your skull, you get to crack theirs. Someone shoots you, you get to shoot them. Etc. Crime would come to a screeching halt, except for all but the most psychotic criminals, almost overnight. Maybe then we wouldn't have people running around with literally dozens of felony crimes on their record. Most of them just flat out would stop for fear of retribution at the hands of victims.
Good for you. I hope you enjoy it, I hope he suffers worse than you did, and I hope it brings you much satisfaction.
People don't commit crimes expecting to be caught. They commit them expecting to get away with it. You could have the most Draconian laws in the world it isn't going to act as a deterrent. I bet most of those saying this is a good thing are americans - where they have the death penalty in many states and where many civilians are armed - but is your country safer than the UK where we don't have the death penalty and civilians are routinely armed? What other biblical laws would you like to bring back? Stoning to death?
Why not bring back stoning to death? I know for a fact that having guns in my home has deterred crime. I've chased off one would-be robber with my shotgun, and while my neighbors around me have been robbed repeatedly, my house has never once been touched, because everyone around here knows I have a gun and a concealed carry permit. They all know I'm a veteran of two wars. They point blank don't want to mess with me.
You are right - people don't commit crimes expecting to get caught. The problem is that for a large segment of the world population, going to prison is some sort of status symbol for them. If the punishments were harsher, they WOULD think twice.
You can't compare crime rates in countries by using the death penalty argument or armed citizens argument because social values, history of the country, economics, and a large variety of other factors play a very large part in crime rates.
Lastly, the death penalty argument is weak anyway. Everyone knows that you can kill a person, be sentenced to die, and then spend 50 years fighting the case, so the penalty is not immediate and real to them. If people were executed immediately, it would have more of an impact. I promise you the guy in this story would much rather spend time in prison, even a long time, versus getting what he gave to this poor woman. Had he known ahead of time he was going to be blinded and disfigured, he very well would have not committed the crime. You can not argue with that.
Totally agree with Redneckbikerjedi.
If something can be done, it can be over-done. As in feeling sorrier for the criminal than for the victim.
The modern penal system was started by a woman who was convinced that criminals could be rehabilitated. Trouble is, the entire focus of our attention moved off of the victim. Instead of considering it a great project to figure out how to rehabilitate the victim, everyone got all worked up over the criminals.
It's sick.
God bless the poor woman, I wish I could be there to watch her dispense justice, which is in fact what she will be doing.
Those who consider it vengeance are focusing on the wrong person, again. So now you're busy passing judgment on the victim, further victimizing her, and you want us to feel all bad about rooting for her?!
Sorry, I stopped falling for that distorted let's-be-humane-to-the- inhumane-morality on 9-11-01.
Agreed, it's the same mentality that has Democrats and Republicans calling each other marxists and neocons while our government has decided that the word "terrorist" is too harsh.
The wrong people get punished and the wrong people get pampered.
Some of you people say, "but she used to be so pretty!". If she was a fat ugly chick to begin with, this story would have got way less attention and the guy would have gotten a lighter sentence. As if you were more of a human being pretty.
@Miles Alexander
@Redneckbikerjedi
Well said, well said. It's nice to see more voices of reason and fairness.
@Laura
SORRY I mentioned she was pretty! Holy crap, Talk about focusing on the wrong thing! FINE, no matter whether she was pretty or not, no one deserved what she was subjected to. I completely disagree with your assessment. She could have been hideous and people would have had the same opinion of this crime. It's more about the torture and what was taken away from her. Sorry that you think beauty isn't something that can be stolen. Even if she was not pretty by anyone's standards the acid completely disfigured her. Sheesh.
i say YOU GO GIRL
i do agree with the redneckbikerjedi, i doubt there would be less crime if the punishment was as this.
do unto others as you would have them do unto you
Let the punishment fit the crime! I think it's fair. Heck..he is going to be drugged and he won't even feel the physical pain of the acid being put into his eyes. As for the after effect, I really don't care.
I will not "cry" for the criminal. He went above and beyond to ruin her life...he ADMITTED to it and then mocked her. Does anyone know how painful it is to be burned? This was ACID poured onto face.
I can't imagine the pain.
Lance, we'll have to agree to disagree. If someone is a victim of a crime and they were/are attractive, they get more attention and that's what much of media is about. I didn't mean to offend (and no, I am not fat and ugly). But just because she was was very pretty doesn't make it more of a crime. And like you said, no one should be subjected to it.
Anyway, this is a very interesting story. Thanks, Danny V.
This story brought tears to my eyes...to think of the physical, mental and emotional pain this woman has endured...I hope that she will be able to find peace.
Laura, let us agree to disagree. This is just a horrific story no matter what our opinions are regarding beauty and the media. In the end, someone's life was ruined and that is what is important here. Peace.
Lance, thanks for your respectful response. This woman should never had endured this this. Peace to you as well.
Redneckbiker makes a valid point. When people know the consequences of their actions are going to be painful, they think twice before committing it. Knowing the very worst that could happen to them is to sit in jail and watch tv for a couple of years while meals are furnished - is a weak deterrant.
Work camps...for the rest of his life. Now the Iranian penal system just has to spend more money and effort to care for some blind guy.
I don't think this kind of crime of passion/jealousy would be deterred by any kind of harsh punishment. The whole cut off the hand for stealing would probably work but these are affairs of the heart and that's not the rational organ that thinks of such things. We even have a "crime of passion" consideration in our own western justice system.
Heinous act that he did and I've seen many news stories of acid disfigurement from the middle east, Pakistan and India. Seems to go with the whole arranged marriage tradition. This is not a lone case.
Really Kurt? so if flashing your pecker in public was punishable by immediate dismemberment by way of rabid pit bull.... you wouldn't think twice before committing the deed?
If viewing child porn were punishable with acid drops in each eye... would you perhaps think that one through first?
I think you might.
This is AMAZING. It's so frustrating to hear people going easy on criminals who are guilty of horrific crimes. Anyone that would pour ACID on someone's head/face has gotta be fucked up in the head.
Bravo~
Check out Tandra at the front of the mob upping the ante with genital mutilation on top of blinding. As for me - I'm proud to live in a country that constitutionally forbids cruel and unusual punishment.
Shocking story, but an eye for an eye, only makes the world blind
