North Wildwood, New Jersey (The Weekly Vice) - Miss North Wildwood 2007, Ashley Fuhmeister, went from wearing a crown to handcuffs after she, her mother and mother's friend were arrested on counterfeit/forgery charges.
Authorities arrested former beauty queen Ashley Fuhrmeister, 21, and her mother Kelly Nowasky, 44, Feb 20 on charges of forgery, possession of forgery devices and conspiracy to commit forgery.
After further investigation, authorities arrested John Lauglin Tuesday on charges of forgery and conspiracy to commit forgery.
According to detectives, Nowacky and Fuhrmeister allegedly entered a Wawa convenience store in North Wildwood and made purchases using phony $50 bills. Detectives say the two passed phony bills at another area store as well.
Fuhrmeister was charged and released on her own recognizance, however Nowacky and Laughlin were booked into the Cape May County Jail in lieu of a $15,000 bond. Nowacky was reportedly released the next day after posting bond.
Fuhrmeister topped 8 other contestants in the North Wildwood beauty pageant for 2007. She also achieved inclusion into the National honor Society at Wildwood High School with a 3.75 GPA.
The Weekly Vice Opinion:
Proof positive a GPA has zero correlation with common sense... Further proof a crown alone can't make a trailer park into a gated community.
I'd like to know why Fuhrmeister wasn't required to post bond. I hope a reporter in the area looks into similar cases in that county's history to see if they other forgery suspects are released so easily. Don't worry, I already know the answer to that question.
