Take A Tumble On Jose Rocha's MySpace Profile
Mesa, Arizona (The Weekly Vice) -- Jose Rocha, a 19-year-old Arizona man, was arrested early Thursday morning after he allegedly turned a clothes dryer on while his 1-year-old son tumbled inside.
According to Mesa police, officers responded at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night to a family disturbance call.
When police arrived, witnesses told investigators that Rocha turned on a clothes dryer while his 1-year-old son Charlie was inside it.
Witnesses at the scene told police the child had crawled into the dryer, which prompted the child' mother to leave the room in search of a camera. She reportedly thought the moment was cute and decided to take a photo.
Investigators say the mother told them she had just left the room when she heard the dryer turn on, followed by the screams of her son.
Family members told police that Rocha fled the residence after police were called. Investigators took Rocha into custody at about 12:30 a.m. after he had returned to the residence.
Rocha denied turning the dryer on, claiming that he turned the dryer tumbler by hand. Witnesses who heard the dryer activate disagree - comparing the sound to the noise caused when a pair of shoes tumbles in a dryer. Another witness compared the sound to that of a 10-pound sack of potatoes bouncing around.
The child's mother, who is Rocha's girlfriend, told local media that she believes "it's all being misunderstood." She has reversed her previous statement, claiming that she now believes Rocha used his hand to turn the tumbler.
The woman failed to explain how she could have known that if she had left the room as earlier stated. She also failed to explain how a dryer tumbler could be turned by hand, since most dryer models make that task fairly difficult.
Police didn't buy either parent's story, relying on the witness reports, Rocha's fleeing, and the red welts on the child's back to draw a conclusion.
Rocha was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on one county of child abuse. The child was released back into the custody of his mother.
The Weekly Vice Opinion:
This gets tiresome. Once more a woman is defending her penis instead of standing up for her abused child. I think she told investigators the truth in the beginning, but began to change her story when she learned Rocha would likely be arrested.
"The kid will heal, but I want my boyfriend back." That's the message I get.
Great parenting mom. Ease up on the Sharpie eyebrows, would ya?

This kind of story always erks me as a mother, when are these mothers gonna stop trying to protect the a**hole men and stand up for there kids, if i was with someone and they did that to my kids not only would i stand up for my kids the man would be hoping the cops catch up to him before my own father does.
I had to go see if a dryer tumbler could be turned by hand. Not mine.
these broads who will let their child be in harms way just to keep the man pisses me off...put and the stupid guy in the dryer and turn it on...then tell me how much they like that ish...
Didn't know they made orange sharpies. Learn something new every day.
Why can some people be parents that don't deserve to be then others that want to be cannot? And why did they give the baby back to the sicko mom, cuz she is just as sick if not sicker than the creep..
sounds like dude tried to perform a late, late term abortion
no way in hell could he turn a tumbler by hand to cause that type of damage to that child.
even if the dryer was a piece of shit and he could do it.....for fuck sake...why?
I gave his Myspace a glance and there are a few pics where he has his son "gangsta'd up" and it's definitely NOT cute...it's actually kind of sad and perhaps this kid was doomed from the beginning.
The things people do to their kids. I just don't understand sometimes.
good job mom!! i hope your lovely boyfriend puts YOU in the dryer someday, just I don't want anyone to save you... PATHETIC! when that little boy gets older he better kick the sh*t outa this guy.. and BTW, hes only 19? he looks 45..
yeah, throw mom in the dryer. Add a 100 pack of nails a box of thumbtacks and a few cactus plants while you're at it
how did a 1 year old crawl into a dryer ??????
See this all the time... Generally, when there is abuse of this sort in our county the mom loses the kid if she goes back to the abusive boyfriend or husband. This being Maricopa county it is probably quite different.
Too bad we can't force people to get a license to have a child before having them... (and renew it every six months they actually are around the kids...)
I tried looking at his pics, but I got scuuuured. Too gangsta. :(
