Orange Springs, Florida (The Weekly Vice) -- Jesse Shaw, an 18-year-old Sarasota man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly attacking a deputy who attempted to arrest him for outstanding warrants.
According to the Marion County Sheriff's Office, a deputy was patrolling the Kangaroo store located on 24282 NE County Rd. 315 Tuesday night when he noticed Shaw loitering about the store. The man told the deputy that he was waiting for a ride back to Sarasota.
When the deputy ran a computer check on Shaw's name, he learned that the suspect had outstanding warrants in Sarasota.
When the deputy attempted to take the suspect into custody, Shaw reportedly took a swing at the deputy and attempted to flee. When the deputy caught up to Shaw, a struggle ensued, according to the arrest report.
During the struggle, Shaw allegedly struck the deputy in the jaw as the deputy attempted to subdue him with an expandable baton. The deputy then attempted to use a stun gun to subdue Shaw, but the device reportedly failed.
A witness who saw the deputy struggling, assisted in handcuffing the suspect, according to the report.
Shaw was booked into the Marion County Jail on charges of battery on a law enforcement official, assault on a law enforcement official and resisting arrest.
A Sheriff's office spokesperson commenting on the case stated that Shaw's hair was not a result of the struggle, but that he wore his hair that way prior to the incident.
