Russell Rhodes - Intoxicated New Anchor Tries To Flee Arrest, Eats Pavement

Russell Rhodes Jail Intake Booking

Tampa, Florida (The Weekly Vice) -- Russell Rhodes, a WTVT FOX 13 news anchor was arrested Friday night after he tried to run from deputies during a drunk driving stop. Eats pavement after resisting arrest.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, a deputy pulled Rhodes over after seeing his 2006 BMW driving recklessly, according to the arrest report.

When the deputy stopped the car, Rhodes allegedly exited the vehicle with his pants and belt undone. As the deputy attempted to discuss the reason for the stop, Rhodes tried to walk away from the deputy twice before deciding to run away entirely.

Investigators say, the deputy caught up to Rhodes and asked for his car keys, however Rhodes refused. When the officer attempted to take the keys, Rhodes allegedly jerked them away, prompting the officer to place him under arrest. Rhodes was reportedly knocked to the ground, as the officer attempted to handcuff him.

Rhodes was arrested on charges of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and obstructing or opposing an officer without violence.

He was transported to Tampa General Hospital for treatment and then booked into the Hillsborough County Jail. He was later released on a $500 bond.

There are many questions to be answered. Did Russell know it was an off-duty cop at first (I'm assuming he was out of uniform). How did he get a black eye from "hitting the pavement"? Looks like he was punched to me. He's pretty beaten up for the small event described by the police

Well, he should certainly keep his job if he hasn't yet been found guilty of anything. It's obvious he probably did something wrong, but why take action if you don't know exactly what he did?

I know people in the public eye have a higher burden of conduct to the company they represent. But I don't think this is so cut and dry.

The cop probably had a bad day and took it out on Russell. Back in the old day you couldn't get arrested for DUI on private property.

Russell Rhodes deserves another chance...come on - he is the whole morning show. It would not be the same without he and Annie together. My family and I will not watch Good Day Tampa Bay again if Russel is termitated from his position. I have never been happy with any other news team than Fox 13 - It is just like a big happy family, but I will go to cannel 8 news if Russel is not given another chance...

Other public figures in Tampa have had troubles with the law including Doug Belden, our Tax Collector in Tampa who fondled a Tampa resident, and life did not change for them. Russell Rhodes is a favorite to many, and the police have a tendency to be brutal. Hope he's back to work in no time, and all is behind him.

Lots of Tampa Bay area TV/Radio personalities have problems, and get second chances. He seems like a decent fellow, but, he's a doofus. Hugh Smith of WTVT-13 had to get busted picking up hookers on Dale Mabry, TWICE, before he got fired. Nancy Alexander...well. The only people with talent on that morning show are all of the meteorologists, and the lovely Jennifer Epstein, who has more talent than Kelly Ring or any of the other news-heads there. And all they let he do is *traffic*.

After having had a chance to looked at the mug shot of Russell Rhodes. I see inconsistences with the bruises on Mr. Rhodes face and the story, as it is being told, by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department. The Sheriff's Department claims Mr. Rhodes received the bruises when he was thrown down on his face one time. The bruises to the lower right hand side of his face (his mouth and nose) are consistent with being thrown on his face. The bruises to his left eye are consistent with having been hit with a straight blunt object by a right handed person (note the straight mark under his left eye.) The eye injury looks suspiciously like a night stick or a flashlight. I don't think we are getting the full story......... Since the widespread use of video cameras, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department has had some very embarrassing notariety. Hillsborough is where the jailer, in the now famous video, was caught throwing a paraplegic man (face first) out of his wheelchair, while booking him into jail. Because, he refused to stand up. Any judgement we make about Mr. Rhodes must be balanced against the checkered history of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department.
