Cortez, Colorado (The Weekly Vice) -- Jeremiah R. Berry, the 20-year-old Colorado man accused of killing his father, cutting the body into pieces and then feeding the parts to coyotes, has been found legally competent to stand trial.
Berry, who pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity back in July, has now completed a psychological examination which has determined that he is not legally insane, according to prosecutors. Berry was evaluated at the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo Colorado following his plea.
According to police, Berry confessed to shooting his father in the head back in February, 2008 before stabbing the body 200 times. He then cut the body into pieces with an ax, skinned the body parts and then fed the pieces to coyotes. Other parts were then carried to various locations over a two day period.
Montezuma County Investigators reportedly recovered some of the body parts, which were found encased in two large buckets of concrete. A CT scan of the concrete was used to reveal the body parts inside.
Berry reportedly told investigators that his father raped him after telling him he needed a sex change to become his wife. Berry's mother, Rita, who was divorced from Jack Berry, the victim, defended her son. She announced to reporters that her son was "put on the spot" and that people "have the wrong impression" from the investigation.
Berry was charged with second-degree murder and is being held at the Montezuma County Jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
The next hearing in this case is scheduled for January 6, where the Mental Health facility's findings are expected to be announced in court.

I never saw this story or knew anything about it. How is it something as horrific as this is so unknown, but the moment Britney Spears gets out of a car without underwear, it plays in the media for a solid year.
I don't know how one could do what this person did and NOT be insane.
OMG, I thought that was a girl, maybe the story his mother is telling is true about the father wanting him to have a sex change. The long hair and plucked eyebrows definately make him look feminine.
You must have a deep hate for someone to do what this kid did.
I knew it was just a matter of time before you would post this story on your site. I live in this town and I also attended high school with Jeremiah. I have to say that looking back on him in school he was a very confused young man, he often wore women's clothing to school and make-up. I find it very easy to believe that the things he says about his father are true. Although I was absolutely stunned to find this story on the front page of our small town newspaper.
