Al Zimmerman's Jail Intake Booking
Tampa, Florida (The Weekly Vice) -- Al Zimmerman, a former spokesperson for Florida's Department of Children and Families, has pleaded guilt to producing child pornography.
Zimmerman, who was a Bay News 9 reporter before becoming a DCF spokesperson, was arrested in February on eight counts of using a child in a sexual performance.
Police say Zimmerman offered two teen boys money in exchange for letting him photograph them as they masturbated. Police say the images were taken with the intent of distributing them overseas. The two boys were aged 16 and 17 years old at the time.
One of the boys involved was identified as a foster child in the Florida DCF system. Zimmerman reportedly met the boy through the DCF organization while he was in foster care.
Zimmerman entered a plea on Wednesday morning. Although sentencing has not yet been scheduled in the case, a conviction on the charge carries a prison term of 15 to 30 years in prison.
