Joseph Cora - 11 Year Old Boy Arrested On Felony Charges After Allegedly Threatening Mother At Knifepoint Over Homework

Joesph Cora Booking Report

Estero, Florida (The Weekly Vice) -- Joseph T. Cora, an 11 year old Estero, Florida boy has been arrested on felony charges of battery and aggravated assault without intent to kill after allegedly threatening his mother at knifepoint over homework.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's department, Cora allegedly became angry Sunday night when his mother did not allow a friend to come over because of uncompleted homework.

Deputies say the boy's mother told them Cora began to throw books and toy cars at her from a stairway. He then took a steak knife from a butcher block - pointed it at her - and threatened that he was going to kill her.

"Cora also picked up a bottle of Mr. Clean disinfectant from the kitchen counter as he was pointing the knife at (the victim) and proceeded to spray it in (the victim's) face and threw the bottle at her, striking her in the knee she recently had surgery on," stated the sheriff's office arrest report.

Deputies say the mother stated she then wrestled the knife away from the boy and called authorities. She told authorities that she feared for her safety and the safety of another child who was in the house.

Cora was booked into the Lee County Jail at around 2:30 a.m. Monday morning before being released to juvenile authorities later that morning at about 8:00 a.m.

The Weekly Vice Opinion:

Despite the startling age of this boy, it's obvious extreme measure are probably needed to get his attention. What a trip to the woodshed might have fixed 20 years ago is now considered abuse, and so responsibility for these kids are falling to law enforcement more and more often.

Family's Fault

this little squirt does need to be taken to the woodshed. Daily if need be.

See, now he'll be pulled out of the home because it's a felony and mom is now a victim (they can't be in the same home by law)...

So he's sent off to foster care or a group home with other influences that feel the same way towards authority that he does - and thus the cycle continues.

All might be avoided if our nanny state society didn't condemn a firmly placed paddle to the backside

A good ole fashioned butt whooping is what this kid needs. This society needs to let parents be parents and give the proper discipline. While I don't condone beating your child senseless, but a swift spank on the behind is sometimes needed to get the message across that they are the child and you are the parent.

This child might not have a father figure in the home...I just hope He will get tthe help He needs.

Well the help he needs is probably not what he'll get. Instead of someone busting his britches, he'll likely get to "talk" about his feelings while they drug him on ridilin (sp).... and then once he comes off of it, he'll become tomorrow's criminal.

A spanking now will do him no good. He should have been bent over mommies knee since he was able to walk.
It is too bad everyone is so damn afraid of their children now. It is too bad most rather be seen as "cool" in their children's eyes, and want to be their best friend instead of the person who raises them right.

But HEY! Why bother wasting your OWN time raising your children when you can just let them run amuck, wait for them to REALLLLYY mess up, then pawn them off on to state?

Oh, and even if he had no father... it is NO excuse. A mother is JUST as capable of laying the smack down as a father is. If you're not going to make that child respect you, he will never respect anything.
My friends growing up were perfect examples of that. Their parents took the best friend route and my friends were heathens in public and at home. Even as a fellow teenager I was often embarrassed by their actions and felt bad for their parents. Now I realize it was all the parents fault.

Any MOTHER that would call the cops on her ELEVEN year old rather than take charge of her own house hold, shouldn't be a mother.

I don't think that it's fair that everybody is criticizing him. He was in my class and was one of the nicest and funniest kids I have ever met. I didn't know why he moved until someone told me today. Joey's twin sister is still at the school. He got in trouble at school, but it was never for hurting someone else. He was one of my friends. He would never hurt his mother. He wouldn't hurt a fly. Joey is funny, gentle, and nice. He is a good person

Being that he's only 11 there has got to be some underlying mental illness/issue. It's true he could just be a spoiled rotten brat, but I know no child (even of the spoiled rotten brat variety) that would spray dangerous harsh chemicals in their mothers face, then after doing so continue the attack by throwing the bottle at her (hitting her already injured knee), and then on top of all of that procede to threaten her with a butcher knife. And all of this over homework!!
Maybe all he needs is a good old fashioned ass whoopen but then again he probably needs psychiatric care too!! I don't know the kid so I can't answer which is more appropriate but if mom is scared for her saftely and the saftey of the other kids, it's probably the latter. These are just my thought's on the subject for whatever there worth!!
