Williamsburg, Virginia (The Weekly Vice) -- Alexis McGuire, a 19-year-old Williamsburg woman was charged with felony child neglect after she allegedly abandoned her 8-week-old infant in an unlocked car while she went shopping at Wal-Mart.
McGuire left the baby alone in an unlocked, running vehicle on Christmas Eve and then proceeded to shop inside an area Wal-Mart located on Rochambeau Drive in York County, according to York-Poquoson Sheriff's office spokesperson Mike Russell.
A York-Poquoson Sheriff's deputy discovered the child in the backseat of McGuire's Chrysler sedan after checking it because it was parked in a fire lane. He then waited with the child for about 5 minutes before the woman exited the store.
McGuire was booked into the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail on a charge of felony child neglect. She was released later the same day after posting a $10,000 bond. The child was released to his father, who was called to the scene.
The Weekly Vice Opinion:
Parked in a fire lane, engine running, doors unlocked, right in front of a Wal-Mart with a baby in the car. All she was missing was the sign that said "Two for one special. Steal a car, get a baby free!"
If this child makes it to his teens, it will be a miracle.

I know someone who did the same thing, car running, toddler left alone, and parked in the firelane while she went shopping. Her attitude is, "if the damn cop had been minding his own business, I never would have gotten in trouble".
What rocks do people like these crawl from?
Nothing will happen to her. She'll claim she is being bullied and that she was only in the store for 5 minutes. Some people miss the point completely. Now I know why so many children are abducted.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, these people who do this must go to the Kate and Gerry McCann school of parenting, where leaving your children alone is "with-in the realm of responsible parenting".
And as soon as their kid vanishes they cry "send me money to find my kid".
Hey evidently you can leave your child in the car in Ohio until they die. Two white collar woman left their children in their cars in the Cincinnati area until they were killed by the heat and not charged with neglect or anything. Apparently if you are white and a professional in Ohio you can "forget" to drop your child off at day care. And you don't even get a slap on the wrist.
