Ocala, Florida (The Weekly Vice) -- Rhonda Weldon, a 38-year-old Tampa, Florida woman was arrested on DUI charges after police say she tried to hand off a bottle of Absolute Vodka to a panhandler following a car crash.
Earl Brown, a 47-year-old homeless man was panhandling in the area of I-75 and US 27 in Ocala, when he encountered a BMW that had just rear ended another vehicle.
Brown said he offered to help the woman push her BMW off the side of the road. Instead, the woman invited the man into her car and offered him a half empty bottle of Absolute Vodka, according to the arrest affidavit.
When officers arrived, they noted the homeless man exiting the vehicle with the Vodka, by which they dumped the alcohol out and questions the homeless man and the other automobile owner about what took place.
Investigators say Brown told them the woman gave him the alcohol because she didn't want to get into trouble, according to the arrest report. The driver who was rear-ended by Weldon's BMW told investigators that he saw the man carrying a cardboard sign, but did not see the him carrying any alcohol when he entered the woman's car.
Officers asked the woman if she had been drinking, however she responded no. Officers did note that the woman was vigorously chewing gum and smelled strongly of perfume. The woman agreed to perform a field sobriety test, which she allegedly failed.
Officers took the woman to the Marion County jail for a breath test, which registered a BAC of .201 and .199 - over twice the legal limit to drive.
Weldon was charged with DUI and booked into the Marion County Jail before being released a short time later.
Brown was arrested for Panhandling. He told reporters that he plans to leave the state. [get the hell out of Dodge].
