Merrick, New York (The Weekly Vice) -- A six-year-old boy experienced a true house of horrors on Halloween day after he was beaten senseless with a thick, leather weightlifting belt.
Jessica Muniz, the boy's 29-year-old mother and her 31-year-old boyfriend Anthony Badalamenti were arrested on assault and child endangerment charges after police say they used leather belts to inflict significant injury to the child.
Investigators arrive at the couple's apartment in Merrick after receiving a call from a neighbor who said the boy's screams could be heard along with a violent whipping sound that went on for at least 20 minutes, according to police spokesperson Det. Lt. Kevin Smith.
When police knocked on the door, they received no response from inside. Investigators then tried to call the residence by telephone, however there was still no response. After it appeared no one was going to comply with the request of opening the door, emergency workers broke down the door.
Inside the apartment, they found the couple along with the six-year-old victim who has sustained multiple injuries - including cuts and bruises across his leg, buttocks, torso and groin area.
The boy was immediately taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was treated and then released into the care of a relative.
Muniz and Badalamenti were arrested and charged with second-degree assault, possession of a dangerous weapon and endangering the welfare of a child, according to police.
Two thick leather belts, which were described as not being used for clothing, were also recovered.
The Weekly Vice Opinion:
In my research, I've learned that Badalamenti is a weightlifter who apparently is no stranger to making the news. He and three others made the New York Times back in 2006 for dabbling in underground steroid use.
Apparently the four men cooked up a caustic potion they thought would resemble the effects of steroids. The potion included root ingredients that are also found in "Liquid Drano" and paint thinner, according to investigators at the time.
Being too stupid to realize you can't gulp down such chemicals without having things absolutely perfect - they proceeded to drink - landing them at the hospital in critical condition with burns to their face, mouth and throat.
Now imagine a big guy with this kind of intelligence beating a tiny 6-year-old kid with a leather belt for 20 minutes. Calling it a house of horrors doesn't seem much like a stretch now, does it?

Hopefully, the true house of horrors is coming up for these guys... federal ass-ramming prison.
Another couple of shitheads deserving of any and all hardship coming their way. Hopefully, the NY prison system is a tough and dangerous environment. Let's hope the inmates are aware of the nature of their charges and inflict the very same punishment upon these two.
Lots of people confuse spanking with assault. The Bible even mentions not sparing the rod when disciplining your child. There is a big difference between spanking your child and beating the daylights of them, and these "people" have crossed that line. I don't believe they deserve to have that poor child.
Thank god the landlord finally did something! He without question, did the right thing by calling the police. We should not wait to get involved if we think a child is being abused. We should not be afraid to help a child in a dire situation. We must take responsibility and not look the other way! How AFRAID must that little boy have been knowing that his mother allowed this monster to continuously whip him with a belt. It is the worst possible crime for a mother to hurt her own child. It is unnatural and goes against our very nature as mothers. We are to protect our children NOT injure them. My heart aches for that little boy. Lets please all be brave adults and never turn away from a child that may need our intervention. My prayers are with this tiny boy.
That original NY TIMES story was posted 12 years ago to the day of this newest incident - strange coincidence? This kid needs help, or by the time he is 43 hes going to kill someone!
I don't understand it; how do adults not think that beating a child with a leather belt will result in nothing less than it's message coming back to bite them in the ass one day. It will.

Badalamenti was found GUILTY yesterday, following a jury trial. He was remanded back to jail to await sentencing in August.
The child's mother, Jessica Muniz, will go to trial in 2 weeks.
Thank you for the update Momof2
