Fort Stockton, Texas (The Weekly Vice) - Jaime Katheryn Steen, a 26-year-old old agriculture teacher at Fort Stockton High School in Fort Stockton, Texas has been charged on allegations of selling, distributing or displaying harmful material to a minor.
Steen reportedly turned herself into authorities last Wednesday after authorities say she sent sexually suggestive images and messages to 14 and 15 year old students. Police also say she purchased alcohol for minors and then took them on an unauthorized school field trip.
Investigators say Steen sent the students several images, including one that depicted a nude woman having sex with a skeleton, an image of a man's genitals as part of a tattoo and an image of two large nude women showing their backsides. The images reportedly were sent as a joke and contained a "Happy Halloween" wording on them.
"We found out that she had been sending obscene text messages" to students, said Lt. Louis Hernandez of the Fort Stockton Police Department. "She was not using her best judgement."
In a separate incident, Steen also allegedly purchased alcohol for several male students some time in September. Steen allegedly bought a six pack of beer and then drove 5 students (aged 15-17) out into the country where they consumed the drinks.
Allegations in that incident surfaced earlier this month when the principal of the school began to hear rumors that the teacher purchased alcohol for students. When he called the students in and questioned them, they allegedly confirmed the rumors.
Police also say Steen admitted to sending the text messages.
Steen was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on Wednesday, but was released on a $4,000 bond two days later

I think this case thus far is headed backasswards. It seems to me charges on giving alcohol to the teens should have been filed and the issue with sending the images could have been handled as a school disciplinary matter, not a criminal matter. Obviously this girl is too immature to be a teacher. Sorry, she is... But a criminal? I'm not so sure that jives with us.
