Dennis McCloskey - Arrested On Charges That He Strangled His Disabled Girlfriend During An Argument

Tampa, Florida (The Weekly Vice) -- Valentines day is still several months away, but we're going to get an early start here on the Weekly Vice by featuring our first official "He Loves Me NOT" award winner.

Dennis McCloskey, a 51-year-old Tampa, Florida man has been arrested on accusations that he battered and choked his disabled girlfriend, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's office.

Investigators say McCloskey left his home at 9412 Takomah Dr. to visit his girlfriend's home on Thursday, Oct. 9. During the visit, the two got into an argument around 3:30 pm when suddenly McCloskey grabbed the disabled woman by the throat and slammed her against the trunk of her vehicle.

McCloskey also threw the women's purse to the ground and then attempted to take her car keys.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's department arrived and took the man into custody at about 4:30 that afternoon.

The woman is a disabled person by virtue of medical records, according to the arrest affidavit. The report did not specify the extend of injuries sustained to the woman in the incident or what her disabilities were.

McCloskey has been charged with felony battery by strangulation and felony batter on a disabled person, according to jail intake records. He was booked into the Orient Road Jail on a $10,000 bond, which he had not yet posted at the time of this report.

The Weekly Vice Opinion:

It's too bad this fine upstanding man in the court's eyes couldn't have been jailed on something more unforgivable like having weeds in his yard. He'll have to post just 10% of that bond to resume his life, while others stay locked up for ridiculous charges. If this comment doesn't make sense, read this story and it will.

Yet another case of Florida scumbaggary! Regardless of the intimate details of the crime or his past track record, people like this need to be put into an incinerator and disposed of. I highly doubt he serves any viable purpose on this planet anyway. That's my 2 cents!

I am a 55-yr old disabled lady. My "boyfriend" is currently in jail for trying to strangle and beat me. This man has serious rage issues and I am frightened of retaliation. He was given a $2,500 bond and wouldn't have gotten that if they had not asked me if I wanted him to get a bond. I have not yet gone to trial and do not know what kind of sentence he might get. When he gets out I am very afraid of what he might do. I hope in the future to associate with a nonviolent man!
