Amy Marie Reed - Arrested On Allegations That She Repeatedly Drugged Her Infant Children

Cloverdale, Indiana (The Weekly Vice) -- Amy Marie Reed, a 26 year old Cloverdale, Indiana mother has been arrested on accusations that she drugged her one-year-old and 8-month-old children - much of it while being under the watchful eye of Indiana Child Protective Services.

Authorities say Reed was arrested Thursday after her two children tested positive for cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine and methadone.

According to court documents, Indiana Child Protective Services received a report on September 12, 2007 that Reed's 1-year-old child had eaten marijuana and that Reed had "laughed about the incident." An allegation that Reed later denied and then admitted she might have said.

When Indiana CPS went out to interview Reed, she allegedly told the case worker that she was six months pregnant but didn't want the baby she was pregnant with. She also allegedly told the case worker that "if this baby dies, it will save me from going through an adoption."

Two days later, authorities collected hair samples on Reed and her 1-year-old child which reportedly tested positive for marijuana and methamphetamine, prompting authorities to remove the child from Reed's care. At a Child In Need Of Care (CINC) hearing a week later, Reed allegedly told authorities that the child should have only tested positive for marijuana.

Investigators say Reed's younger child was born on February 4, 2008 and kept in protective custody until April, 2008 when the state released custody of the child to Reed. Hair samples on the baby were collected about 5 weeks later which tested positive for cocaine. Blood tests concluded that the child had methadone in her system as well.

September 25, authorities say Reed was caught attempting to provide a false urine sample during court ordered random drug testing. When authorities questioned her about this activity, Reed allegedly admitted to providing false samples during previous drug screens that tested negative for drug use.

Reed has now been charged with two counts of felony neglect of a minor, felony neglect of a dependent, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and interfering with a drug or alcohol screening test. She is currently being held without bond in the Putnam County Jail.

The Weekly Vice Opinion:

It's absolutely amazing that the courts and CPS who advises the court, would seriously consider turning a child over to a mother with this kind of history, these kinds of admissions and in this short of a time span. Amazing, but not untypical unfortunately.

Child welfare and/or protective services is routinely in a rush to return children to a parent's care and unfortunately, this is where many of our worst stories of neglect come from. When the parent learns they can abuse a child, wait a little while and have the child returned.

Now we have two children who have likely been blue-printed with drug use, thus rendering them predisposed to a lifetime of hell because of it.

That's our system - ignore all the warning signs and THEN come out with tough charges only AFTER a child has been hurt. What do you think of this system?

Cloverdale Indiana....True story. I worked with a young man in his early twenties from Cloverdale. We worked at a very large cargo airline company. Earplugs are required to wear when working on the ramp. One evening, the young man (nimrod) from Cloverdale asked if I would remove one of his earplugs from his ear. It seems he pushed his plug a bit too far down his ear canal. I quickly handed him a needle nose plier and suggested he remove the ear plug himself.

Again I am disgusted with the state of things today. Here we have a "mother" who is probably on welfare and plethra of other state aids. She probably doesn't work and yet still finds the money to buy drugs for herself and her children... ugh meanwhile hardworking single mothers who actually love their children and are struggling don't qualify for any aid. things like this make me sick....

Don't qualify? They're not looking hard enough or looking in the right places. That aid to which you refer is called having A Man. Struggling single mothers no longer need to struggle. Just get yourself a man. A sugar daddy.

I kid....I kid.

Poetry sue, I couldn't agree more. A friend of mine came up with a solution for this problem. I wonder if we could ever find someone to enforce it. You want your welfare check or access card, take a urine test on the spot, you fail, you get no money or food stamps, if you have no money or food stamps, you can't feed your kids. If you can't feed your kids you don't get to keep them. Problem solved, no second chances.

Um, Anon. I hate to break it to you, but I know plenty of women who are working right now while their good for nothing boyfriends or husbands are unemployed sloths who can't seem to keep themselves employed.

I think what you're looking for is a dependant woman who you can control because she has no other prospects. I'm willing to bet you'll be looking awhile.

Wow! Sounds like the folks on Jupiter have a lot in common with us mere earthlings. For the record, from my experience. It's my belief the intelligence level in Cloverdale matches the level one would find on the moon.

You are right. In many states including NC, if you are working (or married) you are punished when it comes to aid. If you don't work, you get medicaid, foodstamps, a check, a free apartment, etc.

When I was a single mom, I had assistance for a while, but I didn't want to sit back and collect welfare (unlike the women in there with their expensive weaves and fake nails and gold jewelry and driving their kids in expensive name brand clothes around in expensive cars) and I went to work full time. I had to walk to work b/c you only qualify for transportation help if you are not working. Suddenly, I was uninsured and had to live off of minimum wage..my rent went up...I had to work a 2nd job just to break even.

But women like this abuse their kids, get them back, then are cared for by the state. They get a free ride.

The kids are going back to the mother tomorrow morning. Helllllooooooo justice system.
The kids have been with their grandparents in a very stable, loving, nurturing environment. Since going to the grandparents, the girls have thrived with the love and attention.
So the court believes the children are better off with their mother????????
How many times does she get to drug the kids before they are taken away?
These girls are ages 2 and 3. They aren't old enough to even tell someone what really goes on in the house - although - it has already been proven to be illegal activity........
Shame on you, Putnam County!
