Canon City, Colorado (The Weekly Vice) -- Stephanie Kay Bellino, a 39-year-old attendance clerk and suspension supervisor at Fremont Middle School in Florence, Colorado has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust.
Authorities became aware of Bellino's alleged sexual conduct toward a child on August 14th when investigators received information from "concerned people" according to Florence police chief Timothy Bell.
Chief Bell did not elaborate further on the specifics of the case as the investigation was still categorized as ongoing.
Bellino has been placed on administrative leave by the Florence-Penrose School District, according to school superintendent, Cyndy Scriven.
Following Thursday's arrest, Bellino was booked into the Fremont County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bond.

For those who aren't familiar with Florence, it's a little town just east of Canon City, home of the Royal Gorge. Not much happens in this little town outside of the never-ending stream of tourists who pass through on their way up to "the gorge" as locals call it.... So it just happens to be a hot spot of where Christianity and paganism literally live right next door to each other. It's really not surprising to see hippy dude living right next bible dude - and yet the town has a unique closeness that few other towns do. The stoner and the jock are on friendly terms here. The teacher and the.... well, we won't go that far. =)
We're not sure this has much to do with the charges themselves, but it does speak to why little about this case will be broadcast to the media. Outsiders will likely be given basic information about the case and then told to kindly 'mind their own business' I suspect. We're not so sure we blame them.

She'll get "off". Men in positions of power - themselves envious of the boy who was assaulted and maimed for life - won't hold her accountable. As far as they are concerned, the kid was lucky to have an adult sexually assault him.
Interesting that in your description of Florence, you failed to mention its singular claim to fame - being home to Supermax, the highest security Federal prison. Florence and Canon City have several prisons among them, and the prison industry is the largest employer in the area. That's a far greater influence on the town's personality than the nearby Royal Gorge and the tourists who pass through. Still, your assessment of the likely response to the matter is a good one.

Oh that's just awful. I took a look recently on teh punishments meted out for this kind of thing... the easiest- 1 year probation and getting fired, was givien to a white woman. The worst? a 20 year sentence given to a black dude in Florida.
Judges need to make up thier mind for this "hot for teacher" kind of thing and mete out equal justice.
Exactly, there's no doubt that sentences are figured based on looks...Debra Lafave isn't even on house arrest any more.
I'll say that again... Even her house arrest was cut short - even though she technically violated her parole in the process.
Just a couple days a go a news story of an adult/student fling in a different state stated the adult female received a 30-year term.
If memory is correct the male student was 16.
Murdering the student would likely have resulted in a shorter sentence.
Sentences based on looks are PRECISELY THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. A dirty old man having sex with a kid ought to get life in prison. A sexy young teacher ought to get an award. Sorry, but that's just the way I feel about it. Damn, where were the hot young teachers when I was in school?!?!?!?!?
She was working there while i was in the 6th grade, and she was ALWAYS making friends with the boys my age and one year older...she wasnt to friendly with the girls....and now i know why :/
