Michael Moritz / Rick Benedict - Two Home Invaders Try To Rob Paraplegic Man; Get A Beat Down And Then Arrested Instead

Port Charlotte, Florida (The Weekly Vice) -- Two men who attempted to rob a paraplegic man inside his home get a surprise, a beat down and then a pair of handcuffs.

Two men were beat up and then arrested by Charlotte County Sheriff's deputies after they allegedly tried to rob a paraplegic man while he was in his home.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Department, Charles Mathieu, a 30-year-old paraplegic man, was at home playing video games while his friend, Randy John, slept in a back bedroom of the home.

That's when Sheriff's deputies say two home invaders shattered Mathieu's sliding glass door and entered the home, brandishing a gun which was later identified as a BB gun.

Investigators say the gunman pushed Mathieu down and then struck him across the face with the gun, ordering him not to move or make a sound. The two home invaders then began to ransack the home, turning furniture upside down, breaking lamps and pulling down curtains.

Randy John, awaken by the noise saw the two invaders and confronted them, delivering a beating to them both.

"He attacked them in the kitchen and I called the cops while they were fighting," said Mathieu.

When deputies arrived, they found the home in shambles, littered with broken glass, broken furniture and blood. Investigators also found two well pummeled home invaders, which deputies promptly took into custody.

Michael Christian Moritz, a 20-year-old man from Deep Creek and Rick J. Benedict, a 15-year-old Harbour Heights man were transported to Peace River Regional Medical Center where they were treated for cuts and scrapes before deputies took them to jail.

Charlotte County authorities say one of the men admitted to them that the two planned to rob Mathieu after they had heard he kept cash in his couch. They told deputies that they 'thought' it would be an "easy hit", according to the arrest report. Moritz told investigators that they were startled that someone else was in the house when [Randy John] came out of nowhere and punched him, putting him in a daze.

Moritz and Benedict have both been charged with home invasion robbery and are currently being held without bail.

Its funny.. I have the displeasure of knowing this family. His sister did the same exact thing for meth and spent time in jail and drug court. You'd think that all that would be a wake up call, but it wasn't for either brother or sister. I'm sure they won't stop screwing up until someones dead.

I have to put in my two cents here, because I am related to the 15 year old, I won't say how. Ricky is a really good kid and he never would have gone into that guys house if not for that jerk Mike Moritz. By the way, Nobody has shed any light on the "parapalegic", This guy is a known drug dealer in charlotte county! How else would anyone know that he had marijuana and cash on his couch next to him? Of course they won't put that in the newapers but they will flash a childs beaten face and his home address all over the news? Of course, I agree that it was a stupid move, but he doesn't deserve to be tried as an adult!

Yes he does. And,I have a hunch he'll receive a similar smackdown once he's behind bars.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.
