Steven Alfano - Arrested For Murder In Son’s Overdose Death. Told Witnesses, “I Tried To Teach Him How To Party Right”

Spring Hill, Florida (The Weekly Vice) -- Steven Alfano, a 47 year old Spring Hill, Florida man has been arrested and charged with third-degree murder after police say he gave his 15 year old son a powerful combination of prescription drugs. Witnesses say Alfano told them "I tried to teach him how to party right."

Alfano was arrested on Friday and charged with 3rd-degree murder and child neglect charges over a month after authorities found Alfano's son Vincent dead of a drug overdose in the family's home.

Vincent, who had just recently turned 15, was found to have at least six types of drugs in his system at the time of his death including Oxycontin, Hydrocodone, Xanax and methadone.

Originally, Alfano told police that he had prescription drugs, but that they were locked way "so no one other than himself had access to them," according to a police affidavit. Sheriff's deputies however found hundreds of pill that were easily accessible in the home.

Detectives launched an investigation into the boy's death to determine how the youth acquired the drugs and found that father was allegedly instrumental in teaching the teen how to use the drugs. Witnesses told police that Alfano showed his son how to crush and snort pills like Oxycontin and Methadone.

Two of Alfano's friends who wore wires as informants for the Hernando County Sheriff's department, allegedly recorded conversations with Alfano. In those conversations, Alfano allegedly told the witnesses that he "tried to teach [Vincent] how to party right," according to court records.

Two informants and one of Vincent's friends told authorities that they witnessed Alfano giving his son prescription drugs. The three witnesses also told investigators that they witnessed Alfano and his son crushing pills and snorting them together.

Investigators say Alfano acquired the various prescription drugs by giving false information to pharmacists. The charge of 3rd- degree murder was sought because Florida statutes consider a death resulting from the unlawful distribution of narcotics a murder qualifying offense.

Alfano also has an active criminal history which includes assault and battery, an additional battery charge, multiple DUI's, failure to appear in court, disorderly conduct and public intoxication charges.

He is being held at the Hernando County Jail without bail.

The Weekly Vice Opinion:

It's safe to say that we're going to have to deny Alfano's award for father of the year. We will however bestow upon him the hard earned distinction of white trash, idiocy embalmed, jackass father of the year. Alfano, don't say we never gave you the credit you deserve.

But check out that photo. Is it a man or a medicine cabinet?

Wow, what a great father...
My assumption is that he is a regular prescription drug user, possibly an addict and I say this judging on the fact that he had so many brands and also has in the past snorted with his own child.
He should be charged with more than murder, child endangerment, falsifying info to the pharmacy, lying in the original statement, and if the police found enough they should charge him with intent to distribute...This man should be doing life behind bars and like i stated he is a user, he should be detoxed in the worst way possible instead of the typical way used these days. Let this man sit in his cell thinking of how HE KILLED his own son while vomitting and getting clean without any aided meds.
What a scum!

And nobody thought to turn him in that witnessed him before giving and snorting with his son???
Gotta love that fact.

shanna, i absolutely agree with you. i know these people and have been following this story since the death and i am confused as to why no responsibility is being put on these children who saw and knew about the drug use. there involvement in the investigation, cofessions of what they saw and wearing the wires probably got them immunity from any legal action taken against them. what have we taught these children, that they can get away with anything, are we to believe they all sat and watched vinny do drugs with his father. please...give me a break, i'm sure they were all using. if any good comes of this horrific situation i hope it's that these boys will never use again and spread the word on how dangerous any drug is...even prescription ones
