Louisville, Kentucky (The Weekly Vice) -- Kathryn Bowen, a 40-year-old Missouri woman has been arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a minor after a police officer watched as she poured wine into a baby bottle and then allowed her 11-month-old daughter consume it.
According to police, Bowen had been attending the Kentucky State Fair on Monday when a Jefferson County Deputy and a corrections officer saw Bowen pour a cup of wine she had purchased into a baby bottle.
"The deputy and the corrections officer observed her remove the bottle from a bag, uncap the bottle, place the contents of the glass into the bottle and then handed it to the baby who then proceeded to consume it," said Chris Hancock of the Jefferson County Sheriffs Dept.
According to the arrest affidavit, Bowen admitted to authorities that she fed alcohol to her baby, but said she did so to help her sleep.
Bowen was arrested and then booked into jail. She was released on her own recognizance later the same day. She was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday.
Authorities say the baby has been temporarily placed in protective custody.
The Weekly Vice Opinion:
I would have to say the scariest part of this whole incident is the fact that if she felt this comfortable with drugging up an 11-month-old right at a crowded fair ground, you have to wonder if this isn't a regular or semi regular event at home.
Baby won't fall asleep, so you just knock the kid out with a little wine.
As most people know, once any baby grows dependent on something (whether it be a nightly bottle or a nightly 'nightcap', it likely becomes a regular thing until you break the habit. Do you believe this is a one-time event?

Let's face it, their are millions of mothers who are sub-human cretins, and not deserving of bearing and raising children. You need a license for driving, daycare, business, international travel, bartending, hairdressing, and hundreds of other mundane endeavors. At least it proves basic qualifications.
But when it comes to children, what should be the most important responsibility to humanity, no license or training needed. If you got a vagina.....pump em out. Let the chips fall where they may. And we wonder why we're in the state we're in today.
facts.....
*the baby did not drink any of the wine in the bottle, the baby was taken to the hospital, blood drawn, and no alcohol in her system
*mother was NOT found guilty of child endangerment
*yes, she made a dumb decision to put wine in the bottle.... but that's all that happened
whoever typed the above comment really needs be in jail along with the mother.
First of all, the baby didn't consume much because the officer STOPPED the process you idiot. The officer waited to see what the mother was going to do and then jumped in in time to prevent harm to the child.
Secondly, she hasn't been found guilty because she was just charged the other day you numbskull.
Our country doesn't find people guilty right there on the spot. The person is charged first and then given a court date.
Your defense of the woman's actions only tells me that this is no big deal and makes us wonder what YOU would do with a kid, if you so conveniently discount what the facts in the case really are.
It's no wonder you refuse to give your name. I would too if I made such idiotic comments.
Ah, interesting, so what anonymous is saying is that if we put a little poison in the idiots food, it's no big deal unless he/she actually gets enough of it in his/her system to show up in a blood test. Perhaps we could fire a gun at this jackoff... he/she won't mind, just as long as we don't succeed hitting her with said bullet. It's only a big deal so long as a person succeeds with hurting someone. If a cop prevents your murder, then it's not really a big deal that the person tried?
I just love it when someone shows themself to be the same piece of crap white trash as the person involved in incidents like this. It just proves there are far more stupid people out there than the few like this who get caught.
In spite of whatever you might think, this is not a white trash mother. I know her personnally and while she made a serious error in judgement, she is a caring, loving mother.
The fact that you "know" her is precisely why your opinion of what she did is going to be biased. It's why you're naturally going to want to minimize what she did. You're obviously emotionally involved in wanting to defend her.
But to us on the outside, there's a serious problem here and I think Danny is probably right. I doubt this was a one time thing. That doesn't make her an unloving mother. Not at all. But she is obviously dumber than a box of rocks for thinking it would be okay for a tiny baby to chug down a bottle filled with alcohol.
She'll get her daughter back, and hopefully someone along the way will scare her enough so she won't try stupid things like this in the future - even when no one is looking.
First I don't believe it is the first time she has loaded the baby's bottle with booze.
Second she is an idiot for doing it at a fair.
Third, her good friend says she is a loving mother? Hardly since the child being awake was obviously interfering in her having fun, thus she decided to knock the kid out. Purely SELFISH, nothing else.
