El Paso, Texas (The Weekly Vice) -- Ivonne Adriana Vasquez, a 28 year old Canutillo, Texas woman has been arrested on four counts of abandoning and endangering a child after she allegedly padlocked four young children in a trailer in deplorable conditions and then left them to fend for themselves.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff's department, authorities responding to an anonymous tip found four children, including a 2-month-old baby, locked inside an abandoned trailer with no adult in sight.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they found the trailer padlocked from the outside, with no signs of an adult on the premises. Authorities say a deputy was forced to break and crawl through a window in order to check on the check on the children inside. Once inside, authorities found a two month old baby left alone with three other children, aged 2, 8 and 9 years old.
Inside the trailer, deputies found deplorable conditions that included an infestation of flies, dirty dishes, dirty diapers and a clogged toilet that had deputies gagging, according to El Paso County Sheriff's Deputy Jesse Tovar.
The children, three of which belonged to Vasquez, were described as "sweating, the infant was crying and the oldest one was 9 years old. She would not alone be old enough to take care of a 2-year-old, let along the 2-month-old," according to Deputy Tovar.
When deputies questioned Vasquez about why she had abandoned the children, she allegedly told them she had left to take care of paperwork and had been gone for just over an hour, however investigators have not yet been able to confirm that claim.
Vasquez was arrested Tuesday and charged with four counts of abandoning and endangering a child. She was booked into jail but was released on bond Wednesday.
Deputies said an investigation by Family and Protective Services was under way. Vasquez' three daughters were temporarily placed with other family members while the fourth child was returned to her own family.
