Tracy, California (The Weekly Vice) -- Leobardo Reyes is a tough man. So tough, he'll put your 5 month old child in the hospital if he/she crosses him. Unfortunately for him though, he'll be taking a break from his baby abusing ways. Compliments of the Tracy Police Department.
Leobardo Guadelupe Reyes, a 23 year old California man has been arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment.
According to police, the parents brought their injured five-month old daughter to Sutter Tracy Medical Center, where she was examined. Doctors quickly realized the severity of the child's injuries and immediately arranged to have the child flown to Children's Hospital in Oakland where doctors found cranial fractures in three different places.
After interviewing both parents, the hospital alerted police. After police interviewed the parents, they placed Reyes under arrest. Police did not arrest the child's mother but did take the child into protective custody.
Police believe Reyes repeatedly shook his daughter with great force, fracturing the child's skull multiple times.
City spokesperson Matt Robinson announced that the child's condition has been reported as 'serious'.
Reyes was booked into the San Joaquin County jail where he remains at this hour on a $500,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court in Manteca on Tuesday, according to the jail intake report.
The Weekly Vice Opinion:
The term 'shaken baby' has become far too overused in cases like this. I'm sorry folks, but there's a great difference between a small shake to get a child's attention vs. what happened here. Both of course are harmful and wrong, but the two shouldn't be confused.
What this bastard allegedly here can't be classified as 'shaken baby' in any way shape or form. Children this age have soft matter in the skull tissue which makes it a bit more pliable than an adult skull - which is usually more brittle. I think nature provides this for protection during birth and the inevitable bumps and bruises children cause themselves during their first year.
But an asshole like Reyes - who should be sterilized, would HAVE to clobber this child extremely hard to cause a fracture. The fact that the child had THREE of them tells me he might have been going for more until the mother stopped him.
I would imagine that if it weren't for her, we'd be posting a "murdered baby" story instead of a child abuse story. All I can say is this. If Reyes in fact caused this child's injuries, police had better be charging him with a lot more than child endangerment charges.
Child abuse, battery and even attempted murder had better be on the short list of additional charges before the investigation is completed.

My question here is why do the other parent allow abuse and/or neglect to continue. Why do they not speak up Are they too afraid to lose what they have, which I am sorry really is not worth it?! If I was the mom the first wrong look at my infant that man would be hitting the door with his ass front first.
See I am sorry but if 1 parent gets into trouble for endangering, neglecting, abusing, or any of the likes than so should the other parent unless of course the other parent was not living with the accused or what not. It is crazy to know how many people walk away. Surely the mother will state she had no idea it was being done, or she was in fear herself, or what not..But that is not the case....Ok OK maybe she was in fear, but are you going to sit here and tell me your child being in critical condition as the outcome was a better choice?! This mother should have ran and had this man picked up for the abuse back when it had first happened. There are far more options for woman and men that are in abusive situations these days more than what was back in the 80's.
There is no excuse!!!
And yes, I surely hope that he gets more than endangering..This child is in the damn hospital with 3 fractures, 3...I am no detective and even I know that this is not the result from a few shakes! It was more than a damn shake, not to mention since when does shakin baby syndrom get classified as endangering???? They def need to charge his with something a bit more harsh than that.
In many cases, the other party who does not speak up gets charged for not reporting
