Hooters Girls Lather Up For A Good Cause - Host Free Car Wash For Breast Cancer Awareness And Research

Jacksonville, Florida (The Weekly Vice) -- This weekend, Hooters (and those insatiable Hooters girls) hosted a car wash for breast cancer research and awareness. Lather up!

You may know that Hooters has great chicken wings. You may also know that Hooters brings them to you with via a perky blond/brunette clad in a tiny orange outfit that makes even the most ardent non-tipper pony up.

What you may not know, however, is that Hooters has developed an long, consistent history of supporting breast cancer research and early detection awareness.

Let me be clear. We aren't referring to one or two little publicity stunts, aimed at simply putting a happy face on a restaurant chain that has faced it's share of controversies over it's theme. The restaurant chain has invested real time and major dollars towards increasing awareness and funding research towards the breast cancer cause.

Hooters entered the breast cancer fight in large scale after one of their own, Hooters Calender Girl Kelly Jo Dowd, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002. Although Dowd passed away in 1997, the company has continued her cause through hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations, million dollar grant funds and various walk-a-thons and activities like this weekend's car wash.

Saturday's car wash was free, although donations were encouraged, with the proceeds going to the Kelly Jo. Down Breast Cancer Research Fund.

We'd like to thank the girls who donated their time to the event and wish them MANY happy returns. Great work girls!

I thought this site had some class. Covering a 'Hooters Girls'. What does this article have to do with this website. I am willing to bet most of those girls are between 18-20. By showing those pictures you are supporting soft porn.

We don't care about the restaurant - we care about the cause that took place on Saturday.

And for those who judge I'd like to ask - What did you do this Saturday to raise awareness of the issue, or any other issue that effects others stricken with a dreadful disease like breast cancer?

Donating your time to the cause of others is always a class act in my book. Whether you are on a podium giving a speech, on a blog posting opinion or on the street scrubbing cars. Caring for others is something everyone can do a little more of.

As a female, I really don't have a big interest in Hooters, but I am appreciative of their efforts to raise money for breast cancer. You don't realize how important these type of events are until you watch a loved one suffer with the disease - both physically and financially.

I had a relative that passed away from cancer. It was a 5 year fight and towards the end, she could no longer even support herself because she couldn't work.

As far as having class - I've visited this site for 6 months and have grown to have a lot of respect for what Danny has done. If he wants to thank these young people for devoting their weekend to a good cause, so be it.

I'll say thank you too!

Say what? What on earth does washing cars have to do with soft porn? I complete understand your feelings about the girls themselves. But bashing something that promotes a good purpose is just wrong. It's hard to get young people involved in things like this, and if a car wash is a way to do it, so be it. You have to let young people serve the way they feel comfortable with or they won't do it at all.

I for one am glad I saw this article. I did not realize they were such an advocate of breast cancer. I still won't go to the restaurant, but I would have gladly had my car washed if I live nearby.

Wow! Some people are assholes. Soft porn? Give me a break! You need to get out of the house more often. As a previous commenter posted,I too wasn't aware of Hooters contribution to this cause. So,now I am aware.

Their wings receive a lot of ridicule, but, I don't think they're bad at all. In fact,I prefer them over a lot of the offerings by "insert prestigious proprietor of wings" seemingly preferred by"the wing snob militia".

Btw,D. Vice, was that your car pictured being washed?

Danny Vice said...

No, but pretty close. That was a Honda - I have an Acura Legend. =)

And I didn't know anyone ridiculed their wings much. Someone in my office orders them and I have to order my own or I'll end up wanting his. But then again, I like a lot of things that are spicy like that. =)

As for the images, credit for them goes to someone over at First Coast News in Florida.

Whoever posted the first and third comments should try having a little common decency. My friend worked at that event, when she could have been out doing a lot of other things.
She works long hours, pays for her own school and supports herself completely. I fail to see what give you the right to judge her, when she's the one doing the work. Danny's right on. What did YOU do this weekend to help others?

I am the first poster.

Yes, it is soft porn. The whole idea behind Hooters is tits. Nothing else. I do feel sorry for the girls because they don't understand what they are doing. These girls are 18-20 years old, these are kids. I thought this site was against pervs and not a place advertising it.

Lets look at the article itself, what does it have to do with this site's topics? Nothing...

It is ok because it is for a good cause? What are ya'll blind? It is a car wash supporting some issue, but in truth it is just advertment for a place that sales eye candy for dirty old men.

Plus, why report on this one fund raiser? Even in the title Lather Up is a sexual remark. And nothing else.

Danzingdiva would you allow your husband to go without you???

Lastly, you people are sick!!! We get mad at men/women for having sex with victims aging from babies to 17 year old students. But in your mind it is ok to post pictures of 18-20 year old girls in two piece bikini. Want to support a cause maybe this site should support the victims that we read about daily on this site.

Danny, last Saturday I spent the day with my grandson that I am raising. Every Friday we deliver meals to the elderly. I also volunteer at the local university. I also volunteered to serve in the military, where I got hurt. Donating time? I know all about it. Trust me on this, Danny, there are better ways to support a cause. By printing this article you have lowered your standards.

Danny, I understand you only see good things about this 'cash wash'. And I agree people 'caring for others' is a rare trait, but we should never lower our standards for any reason. Any cancer is terrible and support is needed. But we can't turn our eyes away from something that is wrong. I wonder how many of the customers were thinking about helping out a worthy cause or wanted to spy out some eye candy. You see, Danny, I see Hooters, etc, as disgracing the female half of our race. But the bigger problem is these kind of things supports pervs, it feds their sickness. To a 40 years old 16-19 is all the same.

The Weekly Vice is not a single themed site. It covers a lot of various topics - strange things - outlandish things - bad people and various crimes they commit. I spend enough time highlighting the sick, twisted things people do to each other.

Sometimes highlighting something positive in this chaotic world is just what the doctor ordered.

By your own definition of this car wash, the story would fit in just fine.

.......other social insanity...

Perhaps the car wash is an example of such social insanity in your eyes.

But everyone is entitled to an opinion and that's why we make posting as easy as possible.

I'm glad you visit - feel free to share your view any time. =)

I work at the Jacksonville Landing Hooters, and I'm a Hooter girl. First off, I go to the University of Central Florida and I am majoring in Business administration aiming to start my own company one day. I'm not stupid! Second, I have never had a drop of alcohol in my life and I have only ever kissed one boy and he was my only boyfriend, I am not a slut! Third, I don't do anything my bosses tell me to do because they tell me to do it, I do it for me, because I like my job, I'm a hard worker and I am paying for my school and living expenses all by myself at 19, can you say that much for yourself? Fourth, it is nothing like porn! My self and fellow Hooter girls are all proud of our bodies and have great self respect and it is our right to show off the gifts we have. If you don't like it, don't look! Get off the site! People that trash us, only hate themselves and have no other way of dealing with it. I was not at the car wash, I was inside working my shift like I do every weekend....so if any one wants to make up for their cruel words or ugliness, God may give you some brownie points for donating to the Kelly Jo fund, come in and see the hard work I do, come discuss it with me, I dare you! Are you scared I'll prove you wrong? I guess we'll see........Thank you XOXO

Hi Landing H Girl, I managed restaurants for about 8 years when I was younger and outside of the outfit you/they wear, it's about as ordinary as a grill and bar gets.

I took my daughter to the pool the other day and can certainly attest that the Hooters costume is really not all that special in contrast to what the girls wear at various beaches, pools, or frankly, right out on the street.

In Vermont, they troll the beaches with NO clothes on... and I don't mean adults. Kids too.

These girls wore a swimsuit top and jean shorts - which is in my view quite ordinary considering they worked for 6 hours out in Florida's humidity. They weren't dancing on poles or flashing customers. They worked.

During other fundraisers, the girls wear bright colored t-shirts, so the outfits don't detract from the cause. There is a clear distinction between what the restaurant does apart from it's various fund drives.

There are other ways to protest Hooter's restaurant concept without stomping on the one thing they are doing right.

Protest what they are doing wrong, but pick your battles, or you'll just strangle out the good and leave the bad to flourish! You aren't going to run the concept out of buisness, your just going to beat down young people who put themselves out there to do something worthwhile.

I have been clear in my article that the CAUSE is what's important here. I couldn't give a rats ass whether a Hooter girl washed cars or mickey mouse washed cars.

The bottom line is that people dedicated their time to help someone else out.

You HAVE to let people serve in the way THEY feel comfortable with.

Telling someone else how to give just makes them not WANT to give at all... it doesn't teach anyone about modesty, it doesn't change their heart or mind. It just shows them that no good dead goes unpunished.

Anonymous, if 'giving' in your eyes means delivering "meals on wheels" then that's wonderful. I drove for "Meals on Wheels" of Colorado Springs when I was 20 years old.

But I've learned over the years that everyone is different, and you HAVE to learn to encourage good behavior where you find it, even if it's not perfect, or else you'll stomp it out completely and no one learns a damn thing.

I don't expect girls to wear 1950's styled outfits out in the Florida humidy and ranting on and on about a swimsuit top and jean shorts as being soft porn simply is untrue. If you believe that, then you won't be able to go anywhere where there's water and sunshine. Your nylons will get a run just looking at them.

If I write an article about the restuarant itself - then please feel free to stomp all over the article. But I won't let a good cause become overshadowed by a debate over morals.

At the end of the day, the restaurant will still be standing.

All you'll be doing in effect is driving young people away from even trying to care - for fear that even donating their own time will earn them nothing but grief.

That to me is not moral outrage. It's just bitterness.

Lastly, this is not a site, it's a blog - where I dedicate about 25 hours per week tracking down real pedophiles so that future moms can resource their activities when a child gets involved with them.

I also use the blog to show healthier, legal ways for adults to endulge their interests, instead of turning their lusts on a small child or teenager.

Please let me worry about the theme of the blog and the articles that go in it. It's my time and my energy - and I devote a lot of it to THIS cause.

Pretty&Proud,

Did I ever call you a slut? Did I say anything about the girls working for Hooters? All I said about the 'Hooters Girls' is : "I do feel sorry for the girls because they don't understand what they are doing"

Please don't think I want a big fight over this issue but allow me to defend myself.

I think it is great that you are going to school and I wish you the best of luck. Now that you are in college shouldn't you be looking for work in your major? Plus, putting Hooter's on your resume isn't going to win you any points, in fact it could hurt your chances in getting a job.

You said, "My self and fellow Hooter girls are all proud of our bodies and have great self respect and it is our right to show off the gifts we have". You are showing your gifts to strangers, that only want to stare, and you are lowering yourself to being nothing more than eye candy. Does that give you pride?

Why did you pick Hooter's to work for, why not Friday's or any other place. Are the tips better? Is that worth selling yourself? In other words you are walking around in a bikini top and shorts that ride up your butt, for tip money. Isn't that selling your body that you claim to have respect for?

Why not just take the top off and find a place that pays you to dance on the stage. I heard some girls are making $200-$300 a night. Think about it... it is nothing more than what you are doing now, selling yourself for eye candy.

I wish you and yours the best,
.......

Danny, you said, "During other fundraisers, the girls wear bright colored t-shirts, so the outfits don't detract from the cause. There is a clear distinction between what the restaurant does apart from it's various fund drives."

My question to you is why didn't you post one of those other fund raisers? Why did you pick the racy ones? The article was very light on that topic, and the real topic was posting those pictures to

Oh I forgot sex sells.

Lastly, by posting that article you are show your true colors, a closet case prev!

stop trashing people! You have too much time on your hands! You should seek professional help for your issues, not trash perfectly happy people doing their job. What do you want from Hooter girls? What do you want Danny to do for you? We cannot fix you! Get help now! We know what we are getting our selves into working at Hooters, have you ever even been in one or are you just sitting at home by yourself talking smack from your computer?? Strangers hoot at me pumping gas when I'm wearing sweat pants and a baggy shirt, the way I see it, I might as well get paid for it! Hooters will not Hinder my future in business, it is a giant successful company that is based on a brilliant concept, and any educated person will realize that. Stop talking about something you know nothing about! I told you that you should come in and check Hooters out so you could gain some real perspective on the situation, and asked you to come and donate to our breast cancer fund. Now are you actually going to be a decent human being and come donate to a good cause? or are you just gonna keep being nasty and ignorant on the computer? Your hatred and need to put others down, are exactly what defeat all the good efforts in the world (like seeking the cure for cancer). I ask you....what kind of a selfish miserable person tries to battle/argue/rip apart any effort to raise money for cancer research? Get over your self! Seek a therapist! Good bye

Alright, "anonymous", I've had my limit of your hypocritical comments and your faux moral blather. You aren't trying to have a conversation, you're simply harassing and insulting people - and I for one won't tolerate it. Post again and see how fast it's deleted.
