Anderson, South Carolina (The Weekly Vice) -- Gina M. Loftis, a 34 year old Anderson County Detention officer has been arrested and charged with sexual misconduct with an inmate.
According to the arrest warrant, Loftis, who resides in Easley S.C. engaged in sexual intercourse with an inmate at the facility on June 7th. Investigators say Loftis was on duty at the time. The inmate was an Anderson County Detention Center trustee at the jail, according to the warrant.
Authorities obtained a written statement from Loftis admitting to the offense, according to investigators.
In addition to the sex related charge, Loftis was terminated from her position on Tuesday by the Anderson County Sheriff's office.
Following her arrest, she was booked into the very same detention center she worked at as an officer - the Anderson County Detention Center. She was later released after posting a $10,000 bond.
The Weekly Vice Opinion:
Under the sea. Under the sea..... Wait, this ain't the little mermaid. We can't figure out why Loftis isn't clad with fins and performing in a stage production of The Little Mermaid instead of tempting fate at jail.
Either way, this makes the 3rd such instance within a month involving someone who works at a jail having sexual contact with an inmate. Two instances happened with officers, one instance involved a teacher at a juvenile detention center.
What we'd like to know is this. How good is jail security anyway, when full blown intercourse seems to be a regular event now?
This is not one of our more serious cases, but it's an amusing one. At least now perhaps Gina can look into that Little Mermaid role we seem to think she'd be far better at. A badge and handcuffs weren't such a bad thought either though.
