Erie, Pennsylvania (The Weekly Vice) -- We haven't had a 'Bad Mommy' of the week for the past few weeks. I was feeling guilty at first until Erin Howard saved the day. Her distinct ability to turn tragedy into sheer hopeless stupidity makes up for at least three. See if you agree.
Erin Howard, a 26 year old Corry Pennsylvania woman who was recently charged with manslaughter in the drunken driving death of her son, ignores judge's instructions and heads for the bar.
According to police, Howard became intoxicated on June 14th, loaded her six year old son into a vehicle and then crashed into a creek bank, killing her son.
Investigators say Howard told them that she "celebrated her 26th birthday with Seagram's and root beer and a bowl full of pot". She then loaded her son Samuel Carpenter into the front seat of a car without a seat belt and proceeded to drive.
The ride didn't last long. At about 4 p.m. on Saturday, Howard lost control of the vehicle and crashed, killing her six year old son. Howard, of COURSE, walked away with relatively minor neck and rib injuries.
Following Howard's release from Hamot Medical Center, she was arraigned and charged with involuntary manslaughter, DUI, child endangerment and various other related charges. She was then booked into the Erie County Jail on a $75,000 bond.
That should teach her not to drink and drive, eh? Well, not exactly.
A languishing Howard made an appeal to the judge, requesting a 24 hour furlough from jail, so that she could attend her dead son's funeral. The judge, mistakenly unaware that Erin Howard was going to become our Bad Mother of the week, granted the leave. She was released on orders to return to lockup by 3:00 pm on Saturday.
Howard drove to Hamilton Ohio, where her son's funeral was taking place. But instead of complying with the judges orders to attend the funeral and return afterwards, Howard hit the closest suitable bar she could find.
Responding on a tip from the child's father, police found Howard guzzling drinks at a bar called Tailgaters, just six miles down the road from where the funeral took place. What's more, she had blown the 3:00 curfew that the judge set - absconding lockup by nine hours.
Howard now faces felony escape charges in addition to manslaughter, DUI, child endangerment and a treasure trove of related counts.
"Who would have thought that someone who was extended the courtesy of attending a dead child's funeral would not comply with the terms and conditions of the furlough?" said Erie County District Attorney Brad Foulk. "It is absolutely beyond my comprehension," he added.

Well did you soak all of that in? Imagine the layers of sheer dumb twitted stupidity must exist within a woman's mind - to go drinking after killing her son while doing the very same thing.
Could this possibly be a good thing? I think so and I'll explain why.
The media has been all over this story, ranting about how horrible this act was - and I agree, it's pretty astounding. But I see the woman's actions as blessing in disguise.
See, now when she comes before the judge, he'll know who she truly is.
She won't be a woman who simply made a grave mistake that she will pay for with or without jail. No, her attorney won't be so fast to twist this one around quite so easily.
She now comes before the judge as the unrelentingly self centered, self absorbed, insultingly defiant dimwit that she really is. The mask is off. No poor, grieving mother in this picture.
Clarity is a wonderful thing.

Clarity my ass you son of a bitch. I was there when erin got back to hamilton, balling her eyes out into her cousins shoulder, and shes not a bad mother. The crash was an accident, and she wasn't drunk or high when it happened. The court did tell her to be back at 3pm, but did you know that her child wasn't burried until 2:30 PM how are you supposed drive 6 hours, when you only have 30 minutes!? If she was to be there at 3, she coudln't even have made it to the funeral, so look into a situation a little bit more before you start judging others. And im sure she figured she was already in trouble, and if you're that insanely depressed, knowing that you're being charged for your own childs death, im sure you'd go get drunk too you ignorant bastard. Any woman would kill her self in that situation.

Let's get one thing clear. I have a copy of the arrest report and I know very well what her blood alcohol level was - even two hours after the accident.
And your assertion that this was all just a horrible accident is factually wrong and intellectually dimwitted.
Getting all kinds of plastered while you are supervising children is no mistake. She chose do do that.
Throwing your little kid into the front seat of a car (when he is required to be in the back seat) was no accident, she chose to do that.
Deciding she couldn't be bothered with buckling the kid into a car seat was no accident, she chose to do that too.
Driving down the road - while all kinds of fucked up while your kid bounced around in the front seat unrestrained was no accident, she chose that "mistake" too.
Further more.... It's not the judge's responsibility to know when the funeral was to start. That was her and her attorneys responsibility. She failed.
Heading for the nearest bar instead of going back to jail was no accident, SHE made the choice to tell the courts of fuck off, while she darted for the nearest bar after the funeral.
No, you aren't going to find a bleeding heart here.
You just go on making excuses for this woman, but it's crystal clear to me the woman should have had her tubes tied long before having a kid.
Now a child is dead because this irresponsible, self absorbed, pathetic excuse for a mother put her needs above her child's needs - which resulted in that child losing his life.
Her lifestyle, disregard for the law and complete stupidity cost a child his life.

Ok, I haven't commented here for awhile because I usually like to read what other people have to say, but now I'm mad. Whoever left the first post should be locked up right along with Ms Howard.
Now I see what kind of thinking her whole family seems to have. Spineless degenerates who smash a a little boy up and then try to make believe their little princess was sweet and innocent. It's complete horse shit if you ask me.The person to feel sorry for is Mr. Carpenter who's son is now gone because of her actions.

I won't bother calling you human cause anyon that was human, family or not, would not be so willing to forgive someone who purposely KILLED her child. and yes I say purposely killed, because that's exactly what she did. She knew what she was doing when she loading that baby into the car. That fat piece of shit walked away un hurt, I am sure the neck brace is for show. I hope to the Good Lord that someone in prison beats the shit out of her.

My neighbor just won a BIG case after hiring a los angeles car accident lawyer. Why does the father of the child not go after her with some legal charges. Anyway, to keep her cleaning plates and ensuring noone else gets hurt!
She's in jail where she'll wander around in pajamas and ratted hair for the next decade or so. Hopefully longer

I don't like crime anymore then the next person, but i find comments like this uncalled for and disturbing and reducing people to the same level as the criminal, if not worse.
I understand this particular crime story could be a highly emotionally charged topic for people that have children but calling for the rape of women-ANY women-even murderers etc is taking things too far,a concern and shouldn't be tolerated.

I've know this girl for 18 years. She has always been trouble. Her and her sister both. They both prostituted, sold drugs, and smoked dope with both mother and father. They robbed people and I wonder were they learned all these things from? Plus all the pills mom took in front of those girls. Now mom tried, to stop them from doing bad things but when you set the example as she did when they were young. This is the result...

Erin Howards whole family is trash! As a matter of fact her sister Sara is in the butler county jail right now for probation viloations and prostitution. The extended family is trash also. She has an aunt Stephanie T, that abandoned all five of her children when the youngest was five months old. Erins mother is trash also. She steals and sells drugs. I know because she has sold drugs to my piece of sh*t daughter. There are some people that shouldnt be allowed to take their children home from the hospital after they give birth. Erin also has a cousin Deniel T (one of stephanie T's sons) That robbed his grandfather of $13,000 and afew weeks later robbed his older brothers house. So yes, the whole family is trash. If you saw how they lived you would cringe. Erin alwas was a thief a prostitute and sold drugs. Her father must still be high to think that she was ever a good girl and its his fault and her mothers fault because the molded her into what she is today. I wonder if she is coming home to Hamilton after she gets out. Does anyone know when she gets out of prison? I would like to know.

AND GUESS WHAT Today is 1-16-2013 and Erin Howard didn't show up for court on 1-15-2013 for a drug charge (Heroin) and now has a warranr. So she's still a dirt ball lol. She never did change. She only cried because she did prison time lol. TRASH!
