Central, S. C. (The Weekly Vice) -- Don Hamby, a 28 year old Six Mile resident has been arrested and charged with two felony counts of child neglect after police found him and his two children living in a Wal-Mart parking lot.
Police first became aware of the situation when they received a report alerting them that a young girl had passed out inside the store. After authorities were contacted, Hamby left the store with his two daughters.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found Don Hamby in the store's back parking lot near his vehicle. They also found his two daughters, aged 7 and 8, sitting out in the parking lot under a tree.
According to police, the two children told police that they had been living in their car for several days. The children also told authorities that they had not eaten for three days except for a few chips the day before.
Central police contacted Victim's Advocate Khristy Crawford, who arrived on scene to assist with the children. While the advocate interviewed the girls, one of the children became sick and passed out again.
The children were then transported to Cannon Memorial Hospital. In addition to malnutrition and dehydration care, the children were also treated for lice infestation. They were later released into the care of social services.
When police questioned Hamby about his behavior, he told police that he had been waiting for his wife to wire him some money from Nevada. When police ran Hamby's driver's license, it was discovered to be suspended.
Hamby has been charged with two counts of felony unlawful neglect of a child by a legal custodian. He was later released from jail on a $20,000 bond.

Anyway, let's see if we understand this correctly. When wifee wanted to run off to Nevada, the money was there. When Daddy wanted to bond out of jail, the money was there. But when the kids are collapsing from starvation - There's NO Money?
Spay the delinquent mother and neuter the dumb ass father. Since he's driving around on a suspended license and mother is no where to be found while her kids are starving, it would appear the situation is a long time in the making. We could be wrong, but we usually aren't.
There are lots of options for at least getting your kids fed, besides pitching a tent out in a Wal-Mart parking lot. charity services, churches and even a police station might be a start. Hell, go donate plasma if you have to. There simply is no excuse for sitting on your ass while your kids starve.
The sad part about it is, these parents will likely get their kids back and these two girls will again suffer the consequences for being born to jackass parents. God help them.

This story is untrue!!! The video tape was reviewed. His children were returned to him with charges dropped. They found that he was only there over night and was asking for help inside the Walmart the whole time he was there. That is why the police were called. Instead of helping them, they took him to jail. The children were not starving or dehydrated. This is a prime example of the media blowing things completely out of proportion. But it gives people like you something to talk about.

I agree with the previous few posts. I did much research into this story. Wal-Mart security tapes revealed, and other facts, and discoveries showed the news report was largely fabricated. All charges were dropped, the children were returned to thier family, and the writer of this story is a complete moron. Please get your facts correct before posting such garbage.

To the last anon poster, I'm glad that all was found to be untrue in this particular case. However, the writer of this post is no moron, Danny V. takes all info from the arrest report. Now whether or not the police in this situation acted in haste, or are just complete morons themselves is another matter.
Some one always comes here and says get all of your facts straight before you write, most of the time the accused these people are defending are in fact found guilty of the crime for which they have been accused. The facts in this story where written at the time of his arrest, and are in fact quoted from the police arrest report. The fact is these kids along with their dad were sleeping in a car in a Wal-Mart parking lot. You must admit this is not the safest of environments, for anyone much less children to be sleeping.
Some of those "friends," who posted before you should have offered this family a place to sleep until their money came threw for their return to Reno.
