Bridgeport, Connecticut (The Weekly Vice) -- Thomas Bavedas, a 38 year old former third-grade teacher at Waltersville School in Bridgeport, Connecticut has been arrested and charged on allegations of repeatedly raping a female student in addition to drug charges.
Police arrested Bavedas, who resigned from his teaching position on Wednesday, after allegations that he had raped a teen on three separate occasions between 2001 and 2005. While police have not released specific details about the girl's age, she has been described as a female student under the age of 16.
The rape charges came just days after Bavedas was charged with possession of marijuana, cocaine and drug paraphernalia charges
Police spokesman Officer Jeffrey Nielsen said Bavedas was known to the victim's family, but did not release details about his relationship to the girl's family.
During the investigation, police executed a warrant at Bavedas home. According to police, evidence was uncovered linking Bavedas to the unrelated drug activity.
Bavedas was officially charged with possession of marijuana, cocaine and drug paraphernalia. His bond on those charges was set at $30,000.
Bavedas was released after posting $100,000 bond for rape allegation charges. Police noted that they expect additional charges to be forthcoming in the case.
