Teacher Humiliates 5 Year Old Boy With Disability In Front Of Class - Leads Students To Vote Boy Out Of Class

Port St. Lucie, Florida (The Weekly Vice) -- Proving once more that the Florida School system is truly the arm pit of the country - A Morningstar Elementary School teacher humiliates a 5 year old disabled boy in front of his class - allowing students to insult and then vote him out of the class, one by one.

Melissa Barton, Alex' mother is outraged and considering legal action after her son's kindergarten teacher instructed students to humiliate her son, one by one, as he stood alone before the class.

After each student was allowed to tell Alex what they didn't like about him, each student was allowed to vote on whether Alex should stay in the class or not. 14 students voted him out, while two students voted that he should stay in the class.

Barton became aware of the incident when her son told her that he had been voted out of class. Not understanding what her son was referring to, she approached school officials to clarify the comments.

According to Barton, the teacher told her that she instructed each class member to tell Alex what they didn't like about him. After a vote, the teacher asked Alex where he planned to go next, by which the little boy replied "I guess I'll go sit with the principal". The teacher reportedly told Alex that the principal didn't want him either.

Alex, a special needs child is reportedly being tested for autism and has been receiving disabilities assistance for behavioral problems.

St. Lucie School spokeswoman Janice Karst said the district is investigating the incident, but could not make any further comment. The state attorney's office concluded the matter did not meet the criteria for emotional child abuse, so no criminal charges will be filed.

The Weekly Vice Opinion:

While there is always two sides to every story, ANY of the above activities is both repulsive, abusive, humiliating and recurrent reminder of the complete insanity that goes on with the Florida school system.

If Florida teachers aren't abusing kids, they're molesting them - on a daily basis.

We wish we could say we were being sarcastic, however an easy 1/4 of the crimes on students we report on this site come out of Florida. We skip many stories in an attempt to avoid being annoyingly redundant in our reports.

This particular case is upsetting to us here at the Vice on a number of levels.

The actions of the teacher are unprofessional, destructive and cruel to any child's self esteem which is not the role of any teacher. The school's decision to crawl under their desks instead of putting the teacher on immediate leave while they investigate, is the second problem. The state's unwillingness to get involved is the third problem.

There are many resources available - paid by the state - to assist special needs children in Florida. Humiliating and attacking a student is not one of those programs. Neither if voting a student out of class - especially since Florida state law REQUIRES every child attend school.

Put together, you have the perfect example of why Florida schools continue to make headlines for having the most corrupt, unprofessional, child abusing school officials in the country.

We'd like to let Mrs. Barton know that we're behind her 100% in drawing attention to the actions of the school. While what the teacher did is repulsive, we're most concerned with what the school is choosing to do about it.

Idiot teachers in Florida are a plenty. It's the school's job to keep the numbers of lunatic teachers in their ranks to a minimum.

AND as a special note for the teacher, Wendy Portillo. You failed our class - please get the hell out of teaching.

My son was diagnosed with Aspergers, adhd, tourettes syndrome, and learning disabilities. A brilliant boy, He attended a neighborhood public school until the sixth grade when he tried to kill himself after multiple beatings in the middle school hallway and locker room. These beating were never reported to me.

I took him out of school immediately, and sent him to a private school for high school. He got great SAT's and full scholarship to university for engineering. Public schools suck!
