Lincoln, Nebraska (The Weekly Vice) -- Sanford Kaplan, a 57 year old soccer coach at Northeast High School, youth soccer coach for the Capitol Soccer Association and a professor at the University of Nebraska has been arrested on charges that he abused and assaulted six teen boys.
The well respected and highly esteemed soccer coach has been arrested after allegations surfaced that Kaplan devised a a method of abusing boys that has the entire community puzzled and in disbelief.
Six boys, aged 13 to 15 told authorities that over the past seven years, they were bound, gagged, blindfolded and then photographed as they tried to escape a game characterized as sexual exploitation.
According to court documents, the alleged victims said Kaplan bound them with rope, duct tape or chains; suspended them from an 8-foot-high rafter in his garage, and then videotaped them while they attempted to escape. Some boys were asked to wear hip waders, rubber gloves and blue jeans.
One boy told investigators that he heard heavy breathing and the sound of a zipper unzipping. Another told authorities that he was shown digital photographs Kaplan had taken during the event. Yet another boy declared Kaplan challenged the boys to "See if you can get out of this".
Investigators conducted a search of Kaplan's home, confiscating bindings, a computer and a camera that corroborated the teens' story, according to Lancaster County Sheriff, Terry Wagner.
According to police, Kaplan allegedly admitted to 'doing things' to several teenage boys in order to 'fulfill a sexual need'.
Despite the reportedly growing pool of evidence authorities say they have obtained, many parents and associates have expressed disbelief when trying to contrast the alleged activities withKaplan's personality, disposition and work ethic.
Sanford Kaplan has been charged with six counts of child abuse, six counts of false imprisonment and 2 counts of third-degree assault.
Kaplan has also reportedly been dismissed as a professor at the University Of Nebraska -Lincoln and has been suspended as a coach with the Capital Soccer Association.
