Lakeland, Florida (The Weekly Vice) -- Kami Sargent, a 41 year old Riverview, Florida woman has been identified as the woman who left her newborn baby in a trash dumpster to die. She now faces aggravated manslaughter charges.
In May, 2006, a maintenance worker discovered a baby's body in a Lakeland trash dumpster. Medical examiners determine that the deceased baby was full-term and alive when it was born.
On May 20th, Kami Sargent's DNA sample proved to be a match to the baby's DNA, which was captured from the live birth placenta that investigators found. Sargent's DNA sample was obtained from an earlier drunk driving without a license offense.
According to the arrest affidavit, Sargent admitted to police that she left the baby in the dumpster after giving birth. She told investigators that she didn't want her family to find out that she had become pregnant.
Kami Sargent has been arrested on charges of aggravated manslaughter and was booked into the Polk County Jail

The mother's DNA sample will likely be excluded at trial, as a violation of her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.
