Queens, NY (The Weekly Vice) -- Janmattie Singh, a 22 year old English teacher at Richmond Hill High School in Queens, New York has been arrested and charged with third-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child.
According to police, Singh had sex with a 15 year old male student and his two cousins.
Singh allegedly called one of the boys in January indicating that she wanted to have sex with him. When the boy told Singh he couldn't get away, investigators say Singh then went to the Brooklyn home where the boys were and had sex with them.
According to court documents, Singh had a second sexual encounter with the two older boys at her apartment about a month later.
The Department of Education says Singh has been on medical leave since November, and that her name has now been placed on the ineligible list -- meaning she can never work for the city again.
Singh's attorney has commented that the teacher was victimized by the teens she had sex with her, stating that they knew she was on medication at the time.
The Weekly Vice Opinion:
So the teacher calls up a student, asks to have sex with him, comes over to his house - but it's the teens' fault she had sex with them? Victimized?
That's a might far bridge to cross counselor. We're not ready to buy it.
On the other hand, New York is not known for heavy sentences resulting from teacher/student sex convictions. We fully suspect this teacher will serve a minimal jail sentence if any. If we had to bet on it, we'd say she'll get a deferred probation sentence - but we'll see.
