Mt. Prospect, Ill (The Weekly Vice) -- Chad Roby, a 34 year old former 6th-grade English and social studies teacher at River Trails Middle School in Mt. Prospect, Illinois has pleaded guilty and been sentenced on one count of possession of child pornography.
Police first learned about Roby's activities when they caught him using online chat rooms to chat with under-aged boys. Roby had an interesting conversation with what he thought was a 13 year old boy. It was instead an undercover officer (not likely Roby's type).
Roby was arrested in June, 2006 when he set up a meet at a local mall with what he thought was an under-aged boy. Court documents revealed that Roby had sent the undercover officer sexually suggestive photos of himself before going to the mall.
Roby's arrest led police to obtain a search warrant for Roby's computer where child pornography was eventually found.
Roby was originally charged with two counts of attempted child molestation, two counts of child solicitation and one count of dissemination of matter harmful to minors. He pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography which resulted in a 2 year prison sentence.
Roby, who taught at the school for 6 years prior to his arrest, resigned his position at the school, shortly after his arrest.
The Weekly Vice Opinion:
We're guessing the guys in the jail will dig his hawk feathers hair-do and preference for little boys. What's interesting about this case is the fact that prosecutors were able to get a heftier sentence out of the child pornography than they often get out of these Dateline-like child sex stings. Sounds to us like the prosecutor did a good job putting this pervo, hawk feathered child molester out of business for awhile.

he was my teacher, always thought i was gay but i mean look at him. glad to see he is where he belongs, but i must say i worked with him closely in a club and he never once acted inappropriate or scummy
