Jennifer Kay Fritz - Teacher Emails False Threat To Principal To Avoid Teaching Assignment

Evansville, Indiana (The Weekly Vice) -- Jennifer Kay Fritz, a 23 year old student teacher at Perry Heights Middle School has been arrested on accusations that she falsely reported a threat of violence to school administrators, resulting in a school lock-down, increased security and disruption to school operations. Bonus: The teacher just wanted to take the day off.

According to the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Department, Fritz created a false name and email account and proceeded to send the school principal an alarming email. The email, which was sent on April 10th, indicated that she had overheard a group of "young males" discussing an attack on the school. The email also implied that the group would be armed and that the males bragged "We will be famous. Perry Heights will never know what hit them."

In the zero tolerance atmosphere that most schools have migrated towards, the school was placed on administrative lock-down and additional security personnel was called in. Sheriff's deputies were also called to the scene to secure the facility.

Due to the serious nature of the allegations, authorities obtained a search warrant to help them uncover the person who emailed the now-debunked, alarmist email. With cooperation from several Internet services, authorities were able to trace the email to the home of a person Fritz was dating.

When authorities questions the homes residents about the email, Fritz denied knowing anything about it at first. After being confronted with information that the police had obtained, Fritz changed her story, admitting that she indeed sent the email, but that the information in the email was valid.

This lead police on another goose chase to uncover the "young men" Fritz claimed to have overheard. In the process, authorities began to find inconsistencies between the student teacher's story and the her attendance record.

When authorities confronted Fritz with the inconsistencies, she finally admitted to manufacturing the entire story.

When authorities asked Fritz why she would make up such a story, "she indicated that she sent the email to avoid having to report for her student teaching assignment on the 10th," according to the police affidavit.

Fritz has been arrested and charged with 'false informing' and 'harassing'. Both are misdemeanor offenses. She was ordered held on a $2,000 bond.

The Weekly Vice Opinion:

What do you think of that? A teacher decided she didn't want to go to school, so she makes up an email account and sends in a terrorist-like threat to shut the whole school down.

When police come knocking on her door, she acts like she has no clue what they're talking about until cops likely found out the girl wasn't even AT the school on the day she claims to have overheard the threat. Hey, if you're going to be stupid, you might as well be all the way stupid, right?

It's also likely that the cops were moments away from dragging her befuddled boyfriend off to jail, since the email was traced back to his house.

Wouldn't it be interesting to be a fly on the wall during this whole debacle? Where is a friggen camcorder when you need one!
